A Look Back At Resolutions For 2007

Its New Year's eve and I'm gonna be spending it with the wifey and the wifey alone, in a couple of hours time!

Our (My) grand masterplan is to go to the Marina Bay Golf Course at 11+ , by which time I'm expecting it to be closed. From the 3rd and 4th stories of the driving range, you can get a good view of Marina Bay (else the name?) and the city. Hopefully there arn't too many people as brilliant as my good self. A nice snack (unhealthy potato chips and beverage) should top up the night to be a memorable one.

Dun copy me ah!

Anyway, at the beginning of the year, I came up with my 2007 resolutions. Luckily I have only three and I can look back and say that I've met most of them (2/3 isn't too bad!).

1. Succeeded! Only because I drive less too.

2. This one I didn't meet. Almost, but didn't. But I'm happy with my performance anyways.

3. Succeeded! Myaybe I'm maturing.

Well, I'll be coming up with my 2008 resos soon so watch this space! Meanwhile I gotta give up the computer for the wifey to write her final blog of 2007 too!

Cya 2007, happy new year everyone!!!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I better post this fast.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Spent Christmas eve at Bock Lian's place last night and got back to Sengkang only around 4am. Its finally in liveable conditions (by my standards!) and its coming up quite nicely.

Nonetheless more work needs to be done and thankfully I've got till the New Year to continue slogging on the new home!

Just subscribed to StarHub's MaxOnline dunno if its any good but if all goes well, I'll be online in Sengkang by Thursday!

:)

117

Ok, so its not exactly PGA material, but! My best ever score on an 18-hole golf course.

Went to SouthLinks in Batam today with the boyz and had a fantastic time. I think I'm definitely improving and my tee-offs are getting pretty okay! The irons are looking good after I switched from 5/7 to 4/6. Putting let me down a wee bit though.

I even had a par on the 4th hole! Though hole 8 I was playing ping-pong between two bunkers with the flag in between. Tony himself hit a sub 100 for the first time while Youlong's putting killed him (if not he should have done much better).

We finished the course in a little under 4 hours, got baked in the sun, lost only 4 balls, and slept most of the journey back (okay I'm really tired but I couldn't sleep due to the lousy boat ride back, but the other two did!).

Maybe its time to take golf a wee bit more seriously.

Sengkang Resident

Sengkanger?

Sengkangite?

Sengkangian?

They all don't sound very nice.

Nonetheless, I am now a Sengkang resident. Not fully moved in, but I officially spent my first night in my new home over the weekend. We spent the weekend painting (yet again) and we're STILL not fully done yet. Left with one last room.

The TV also came early evening today and its huge! So happy that at least that's one of our key requirements fulfilled. We'll have to wait for the next month's salary to cash in before we can think about what to get next. So now we still make do without a fridge, any beds, sofa set and cable/internet connection.

So happy with our home location. We're walking distance between Compass Point in front and Rivervale Plaza at the back. Walked to both places to recce over the weekend. All that complemented by a really good coffee shop beside out MSCP. We'll never go hungry!

Our neighbours are really friendly too, except for a barking dog by the name of Jackie. He'll bark at any of you if you ever do visit, but bare with it, for hit helps not only our neighbours but us as well to guard our cosy little corner.

The house is also windy as hell. Last night we had to sleep on the cold hard floor only with my company's beach mats to rest on (wasn't helpful). I had to eventually switch the fan off because it was already so cold and we had to resort to using some old curtains (which we wanted to dispose of) as blankets. Brrrr!

That's about it. But if I haven't personally told you already, Sengkang is definitely gonna be the next Bishan! This little enclave in the North-eastern end of Singapore may seem ulu papaya to alot of you, but with the limited time I've spent here, I see red-hot potential.

The demographic is just starting to ripen, mainly young couples and young families all over the neighbourhood. Its very public transport oriented (LRT, NEL, lotsa bicycles and bus services). The crowds at its malls are teeming with people daily, clearly shouting for more facilities to be built. Sports complex and Town council building coming up in 2008. KPE linking straight to ECP. Punggol Marina (at least they're serious this time!). Good pri and sec schools. And (surprise!) condos and private property coming up in the area.

Most of these you don't have to be a genius to figure out once you drop by for a visit. But its also probably the only suburb thats got its own website as www.sengkang.com

Haha. Ok, anymore ranting and its all gonna look like a sales pitch from me.

Let me know if you're my neighbour!!!

A New Beginning

Ok. So I have been too busy to blog about what could probably be one of the most significant events of my life. But painting a 5-room flat is plain tough can?!

I'll make it up with pictures...

Anyway, the knot's tied and we've went through our ROM sailing really smoothly! There're some nice pictures and I'm so glad we got a really good photographer cuz its really just so important. The solemnization was short yet meaningful and we had a feastful dinner after that at that Suntec Chinese restaurant that I can never remember its name. Both our families met for the first time that day and it was a better-than-expected meet-up.

These are some of the many pictures our photographer took. If these arn't excellent artistic shots, I don't know what are...
Here's my favourite pic...that's my mum right there...

We also got our house keys!
Been too busy painting the house to blog about much of it. But we spent Friday and Sunday painting while I fitted a Saxo golf game at Bintan in between (was way fun too!).
K lah that's all for the update. If you are interested in our photographer just let me know.

Productive Day #3

This is getting somewhat lifeless.

Yet another day of trading and packing up stuff. Today we packed boxes and boxes of books. So many books of yesteryear I never thought I'd keep (well, mom kept them for me). Nice to see them again and will be shipping the whole load to the new home.

I've got enough childrens' books to last 10 generations.

Then it was off to Ang Mo Kio Hub to watch Enchanted. Its not too bad. If you're still suffering from Stardust withdrawal and want more of such sugary shows, Enchanted is good enough to satiate that lovey-dovey appetite. I give it 3 1/2 popcorns. Not as good as Stardust but the song and happiness of the show is somewhat worth it. Guaranteed to make any moviegoer smile from ear to ear.

Thats my short post for today (as you can see, I'm getting lazier by the day).

Productive Day #2

Its funny how I find it a chore to blog consecutive days and yet I actually kept a diary from my days in army all the way till just before I started working. Only then did I stop.

Anyway, today was another productive day of packing. This time around mom brought out all my rubbish from the store (all 5 boxes with more to come!) for me to sort and decide what I wanted to keep and what I wanted to throw.

So it was a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Little momentoes, gifts and souvenoirs (lotsa which I had to throw, unless I wanted something to argue about for the rest of my life!), along with my old textbooks, old worksheets and many other rubbish that I never thought I'd keep, all had to be sorted. I also realised what a great poet I once was, what with my assortment of little rhyming 4-liners since secondary school (there's one about Jinde even!) all the way till my university days. Made me wonder where my muse has fluttered to. But I've got enough leftover to fill a little Enid Blyton book at least. After 4 tiring hours, I managed to trim the stuff down by half, all of which I have to move over to my new place.

Afterthat I went out to fetch the dear to meet the hotel fella. So its final. We're picking Novotel @ Liang Court as our wedding venue. It's gonna be on Friday, 10th of October 2008. If you've got suggestions for some other place and date (as most people do), save them for your own wedding. The dear loves it, pillarless ballroom, auspicious date, great package, nice food, the works. Contract's been signed. It happened so fast I don't even remember signing that piece of paper.

It's gonna be quite an exciting time leading up till then, but I would think our next priority is the house, and our ROM, which is coming up in 2 weeks!!! So it feels great to get this monkey outta the way.

Meanwhile, its back to thinking of lala-land. Been thinking about it quite abit. Its not very likely, but the very thought of it gets me all pumped up and excited. I wonder how this dream will be crushed?

Productive Day #1

I'm on a whole week's worth of leave and I'm trying to make the most of it!

Spent the whole morning and afternoon packing my jungle of a table. All my bank statements and transaction receipts were piled in a huge mountain dating as far back as Dec 06! So it was quite hard work and took me several hours just to get them all sorted out.

Then I went out to ECP to JOG! Wow. I was really unfit, but knowing that next week's reservist included an IPPT test, maybe I should just try to pass it at the very first attempt for this year's window? Anyway, I ran for only 20minutes and then took another half an hour to walk back home. Hee...

But I wasn't done! I went to the gym to lift a bit of weights too! So proud of myself. Managed 3 pull-ups (gotta start 'em slow) and 20 sit-ups. Almost died.

Went to Parkway around 9.30 to pay some credit card bills (believe me, they are mounting rapidly). Ended up buying Old Chung Kee curry puffs for everyone at home!

Afterthat I watched episode 3 of Heroes on tv. Awesome stuff.

Haiz, guess that's my kind of exciting day.

*I want to go off to a faraway land!*

Rare Friday

Rare indeed. One of the first few Fridays in several months where I'm not out trying to destroy my liver.

Today a friend told me that I looked less energetic about my job these days. Gone are the days when I had that inquisitive enthusiasm and proactive lets-make-it-happen attitude. And as much as I didn't want to admit it, she was kinda right. Its time to do some soul-searching. Back to the drawing board for now. Maybe I've got too much of other going-ons to think about right now. At least I have a new pilot project to look forward to, albeit being more saigang than anything, but at least I learn more and don't sit still.

For the umpteenth time, please go watch Stardust the movie before it ends its run here. Its just too beautiful a movie to miss. Once again remember to bring that significant other along with you. Ending's a little cheesy though so treat this fairy tale kind.

Tommorrow is our inaugural Saxo Soccer Saturday. It's kinda drizzling right now but hopefully the morning's gonna be fine so at least I can burn some calories on the court. And it does seem like quite alot of people are gonna be there. I even went to buy an extra ball just in case.

Earlier the Dear and I met up with our ROM photographer at Suntec. Nice of him to get to know us before our big day. Even brought him to Pan Pacific to see our suite.

That brings me to our BIG day! Its the 1st of Dec! So fast! Feel abit unprepared. But hey, where is the fun if life were served up nicely in a plate? Now to go online and see how to phrase my wedding vows...

Dec 7th we have our 2nd appointment for exchange of keys. Finally! We can move into our new flat in Sengkang! I've got it all planned out. We're gonna spend the first weekend cleaning our flat till we're tired and fall asleep on the empty floors of our new home!!! Sounds so fun, sleeping bags and all. Maybe we'll have a wall where we paint our own favourite pictures! And then there's the shopping for furniture! Every month we get to buy bit by bit when our pay comes in...hahaha.

K, done ranting. Sun please come out tommorrow morning!!!

Band Of Brudders, Plus One Little Sista @ Dragonfly

Friday night I had the most powerful drinking session of my life.

I think there were like 8 of us guys plus Aly. While we've always looked forward to celebrating the end of the month in recent months (especially so for my regular bros), we totally bumped it up a notch. 9 of us in total and we cleared 5 and a half bottles of Hennessey in Dragonfly. Now thats some serious shit right there! Was home before 1.30am almost totally wiped out, yet still sober enough to walk the puking Gavin almost to his doorstep and Eugene to his gate. Next morning Jinde complains that he can still smell alcohol in my sweat during Street Soccer Saturday.

That was awesome.

Went to the Singapore Science Centre with the dear earlier today. Its been 3+ years since we last went there and the damn place has hardly changed! But we both are curious science nuts as always, so we still had a ball of a time with the science experiments, optical illusions and explanation of how things work.

The Omni-theatre is like oh-my-God archaic and still looks EXACTLY the same as when I first stepped in that dome back in secondary school 14+ years ago. Still the exact same red narrow seats and weird-globe-in-the-centre-that-everyone-wants-to-touch, and even the opening and ending sequences haven't changed! C'mon SSC, time to upgrade!

Afterthat we had enough in us to watch Stardust, as recommended by Aly and Christin. A uber-rare high average recommendation of 4.375 stars/popcorns between them both got me interested. And it really was good! No doubt the ending was screaming cheese all over but still the feel-good good-triumph-over-evil air in the head when you walk out of the theatre just makes the SGD9.50 oh-so worth it.

Go catch it with that favourite someone for that extra 0.125 stars/popcorns worth.

You Know You're Addicted To Facebook When...

10. You play with it even in office, especially games like Pacman, Scrabulous and World Traveller IQ.

9. You don't update your Friendster or MySpace accounts anymore.

8. You try to add as many friends as you can as if it were 2002 (during the Friendster craze) all over again.

7. All the latest updates of your friends came from you reading their Facebook profiles.

6. Scissors, paper, stone challenges became fun all over again.

5. "Do you have a Facebook account?" became your new pick-up line.

4. You begin to feel that the fastest way of communication is by drawing or writing messages on your friends' walls.

3. You scour through friends' album pictures hoping you can tag yourself in any of their pictures.

2. You refresh it every 20 seconds to see if there are any new invitations/friend requests/notifications.

1. You neglect updating your blog for 2 whole weeks because you spent too much time on it.

Land of Tai Mei

Just back from Taipei.

It was a really fun trip with the guys as we partied each night till dawn. Tai Meis (Taiwanese chicks) are really something. No pix taken with any of them though, else kenna taupok by the girlfriend.

Tai Mei Observation #1 - Act Cute Face
Spends a hell lot of time dolling up and acting cute. Eye-liner thick like Goth, macham like dun need money lidat. And their fake eye-lashes are so long they can poke your eyes out. Everything done with act-cute spirit. Even their voice also try to act cute. Can't blame them, they make really great eye-candy.

Tai Mei Observation #2 - The Shorter The Better
I have no idea why they even bother wearing shorts. They have a thing for ultra short denim shorts, so short that they're probably illegal in Singapore. Makes their milky-white legs look all the longer perhaps?

Tai Mei Observation #3 - Damn Open Minded
At a club called LAVA, they were having a dance competition for selected Tai Meis who wanted to earn a 2,000NT (~SGD100) ang pow. At first I thought it was a dance competition, but I was wrong. It was more like a striptease competition. C'mon this was like any normal club like Zouk or Dragonfly and these kids were on stage stripping out of their spaggetti straps and denim shorts (G-strings galore!) and dry-humping like their lives depended on it. The eventual winner collected the ang pow with ONLY her G-string on, much to the enjoyment of perverts like ourselves.

Well aside from all that testosterone-pumping night action we also did the touristy bits during the day time like go up to the Taipei 101, shop at Shilin, Xi Men Ding and Wu Fen Bu.

Also when in Taipei, we do what the Taiwanese do. We were gouging ourselves with Ji Pa (fried chicken breast), Aw Lwa Mee Suah (thin noodles with oysters) and Chou Dou Fu (smelly tofu) evert single day! Topped with bubble tea almost every single meal. We also played the silly Zua Zua Le (catch catch fun), stupid UFO game to catch softtoys. Bloody crafty Tai Mei salesgirls would help you to arrange your target softtoy to tempt you to try again. Basket. Then there was the arcade basketball shooting craze too.

Ok. Thats all the pix I have right now. I'll totally encourage anyone to go Taiwan.

Oh, and did I mention that Taiwan TV has got like 10-over channels devoted to investments analysis alone?! Its like technical analysis and fundamental analysis courses on TV!

Addicted to Heroes

Somehow, I can watch the 1st season of Heroes for free. Don't ask me how, but I can. And by golly am I addicted to it. Been spending the last couple of days watching 3-4 episodes a day. Its awesome! I really recommend it to everyone. The cheerleader's so damn hot!

So our golf trip came and went. I didn't play as badly as I thought I would, was decent enough. Probably need more practice and I can turn pro liaoz...hahahaha...

Going to Taiwan this weekend. Its a stag party of sorts.

Getting ROM-ed on 1st Dec. Dinner's gonna be in late 2008. If you're reading this you'll probably get an invite in June perhaps?

This quarter has been the best so far. I just officially became the record holder in the whole global office for most accounts acquired in a single quarter. Its been a good 3 months.

Lets hope next quarter will be better.

Top 10 Reasons Why Golf Sucks!

1. I'm so gonna get pwned by everyone else this Friday at SouthLink.

2. My arms hurt and feel numb at the same time after an hour in the range.

3. All the hot babes at MBGC hit better and further than I do.

4. My Pitch hits further than my 7.

5. All my shots fly right. Waaaaaaaaaay right.

6. I've almost never ever touched my Sand Wedge before.

7. I go home way past bedtime.

8. And have too heavy suppers at River Valley/Old Airport Road/Blk 85 Bak Chor Mee.

9. I've gotta wake at 6am on Friday.

10. My entire golf set costs HALF of one of Eugene's single driver. Thats including the bag.

To Fix A Fan

My computer's fan has been down for several days,
And I can't operate it long before it overheats.
The over-heated indicator blinks from on till off,
I felt it time to get my computer fixed.

I went to a PC store in Siglap centre,
I thought they could fix things right.
But when they told me the cost and wait,
I left the PC store in ghostly fright.

They wanted to charge me eighty friggin' bucks,
"Just for the consultation", he had the cheek to say.
"It would also take two days to fix it up",
By then a bomb I would have had to pay.

So I picked up my toy and left the store,
Not believing the obnoxiousness of that twit.
I then drove straight down to Sim Lim Square,
And found my favourite store to take a look at it.

The guy was closing, shutters down and all,
Nobody would fault him rejecting me.
But when he saw me distressed, running to the store,
He gladly waved me in enthusiastically.

"What's the problem, my friend?",
He asked with voice full of concern.
"My fan's broken", was my reply,
My money was there for him to earn.

"That's easy!", he said with a chuckle,
Screwdriver already digging in,
"I'll fix it up in about five minutes!"
My heart started dancing from within.

Indeed thats all the time he took,
To change that dusty faulty fan.
And how much did it cost you ask?
35 dollars, it was such a bargain!

The moral of my limerick wannabe,
Is not about who's right or wrong.
More about getting things done swiftly and efficiently,
And not having to wait too long.

More about not paying through your nose,
Just for something simple as can be,
And get straight to the heart of the matter,
So that everyone can leave happy.

I guess I'll never go back to that Siglap store again,
To fix any old PC of mine,
Instead I'd rather drive further down to town,
Where I know I'll have peace of mind.

This is where my story ends,
My dear friends please beware,
Stay away from Siglap's PC store,
Or your wallets will be bare.

Just That Quick Update

Been awhile since I last blogged.

Just dropping by to update that I haven't had much to blog about actually.

Had a great month of August work-wise. Hopefully September will be the same or better, but I'll have to start working on it if I wanna make it. Life is good for now, but I really can't see 3 months ahead to save my life.

Our HDB 1st appointment is on the 28th of the month, so we've gotta book our ROM date soon. Will probably be having a quiet little ROM in a hotel suite somewhere with only both our families. Chinese wedding will have to wait till late next year perhaps.

I guess that's about it for now.

Oh and I finally get to own a BlackBerry - for now. Haha.

Can You Keep A Secret?

Haiz.

I'm a sap.

And I think too much perhaps.

Watched Jay Chou's directorial debut last night (because the girlfriend dragged me to it) and as much as I really hate to admit it, I thought it was a pretty good movie. It had two really hot babes, killer piano rifts and a super twist at the end that would've blown me away had I not have read Aly's blog.

Still it was twisty enough to impress.

It is similar to the Korean love story Il Mare or the lousier Americanized version, The Lakehouse, and conceptually like The Butterfly Effect or 6th Sense. Not the same, but in the same category. So if you liked them, then you should watch this.

Just some notes even though I think I've just about solved everything:

*warning* SUPER SPOILERS - highlight to read.

Had 小雨's mom gone mad? Else how can we explain both times when first she says 小雨 was sick and the other time when she said she was in the room (but wasn't)?

Why is it that Jay can appear in the photo in the last scene? Isn't he not supposed to be seen by anyone but 小雨?

Why is it that Jay can go back to the time when 小雨 was still alive? Isn't she dead by the time he goes back to 1979?

小雨 isn't really dead lah is she? The one who's dead is really Jay Papa who suffers a heart attack while running back to school at the last part.

Why is SKY so damn hot?

Ok lah so the main female lead was quite good too. She has this really cute, plain jane but vulnerable thing about her too lah. Sheesh.

Ok ok, so I haven't quite solved it all. But go watch it lah, and bring the bf/gf along with some Kleenex.

I will gladly discuss any logical hypotheses for my above notes with anyone who've watched the movie.

Summer Party 2007

Yesterday was our summer party (I know, its autumn already).

Was at Sentosa from the afternoon. Beer was free-flowing, everyone was wet and games were played everywhere.

We played beach volleyball and lost to the team from customer service (the humiliation!). Then we played beach soccer and lost to the team from sales trading too. Which sucked. In the end, of all games, we won the raft-building competition when Eugene and I kicked our way to leg-numbing glory by taking the first spot on a technical disqulification (Kasper was standing on the seabed to push his raft most of the way!)

Won ourselves an expensive bottle of Moet, 3/4 of which were sprayed all over Christin and Eugene. Felt like F1 winners, us all.

The night was more exciting with alcohol in free-flow. Sounds familiar? That's because its happened before so nothing should come as a surprise. There was a cool arm-wrestling competition by anyone you wanted to see wrestle anyone else, though I didn't get a chance to wrestle anyone. Haha.

Alot of slutting-it-outs and new gossip. Its nice to stand by the sidelines to watch once again...

If anyone saw the left side slipper of my Tevas right beside the beach tent where the bags were, I'll be very glad if you could return it.

Will post some pix if the release them to us.

One Half - 881 Duet Version

Just caught the movie. For once, I'm really strongly recommending this local movie.

Its just awesome lah. Makes you feel all Singaporean and patriotic, because only a Singaporean will appreciate all the Hokkien and its references. Treat it like a Hokkien musical. Go buy the soundtrack. Blast it in your car and sing along! Then blog about how good it is and spread the word.

Just love it!

Complexity

These days, there are things that happen so disgustingly fast that you don't know what to make of them anymore. Friends are lost, colleagues are lost, new ones are found and everything turns with the blink of an eye.

I have always recognised that I'm working in an industry that lives and die by the second. And the old adage that time waits for no man holds its most ruthless truth within the realms of this industry. Within a split-second, rewards are gained and lost, in a matter of instants, people around you change. That is the sad reality that I'm in. I have to constantly adapt, I have to constantly change to match the settings of my environment.

Is this what I really want? I don't know. But probably the large draw is the money. Maybe thats why it pays so well to survive here.

I may be the best salesman today, but I'll be fired tomorrow. My boss may share a beer, private stories and an unfunny joke today, but tomorrow he'll totally ignore me as I clear my table. We work, play and live everyday like it were our last in the company.

Come carpe diem baby!

Amen.

Krabi

Back from Krabi over the weekend. Been very busy so really haven't got much mood to blog about the trip. It was way fun though! And the islands were gorgeous, albeit a little commercialised. Went to Phi Phi Island and experienced lying in the sun in secluded lagoons. We had massages every night and spent a ton of money buying clothes and souvenoirs.

So here are some pictures to sum up my trip!

Our villa. Not bad lah.

Jumping for joy.

I should buy into Thai Bev!

I'd love to post up even more pix but I'm just plain lazy lah. Nonetheless you can see how satisfied I am with my trip from the smiles above and the jumps for joy! Haha. Look at the little islands in the background, there were plenty of them!!

Oh anyway I finally proposed! Yay!

Dim Sum Dollies & Chek Jawa

Its another weekend. So fast.

Watched the Dim Sum Dollies last night at the Esplanade. Was really funny. Classic Selena Tan and gang. Too bad we could only get the lousy balcony seats at the highest level (level 4 !) where we had to peer down from above as though we sneaked into the theatre lidat. Haiz.

Bought the soundtrack too. Its really funny. Anyone who wants to borrow it can do so at a cheap rental price of $10/day. Cheap! Just SMS me.
______________________________________________________

Went to Chek Jawa with the girlfriend last weekend. It was an impromptu decision all because the place was featured in the Sunday Times. With just a quick snap we were already at Changi Village. So we took a bumboat ride to Pulau Ubin which cost us $2, and then grabbed a free map at the information kiosk and starting walking there.

Not surprisingly we got abit of the trails wrong and walked a longer than usual way (I think we trekked for 2 hours) before reaching Chek Jawa.

It has already been renovated, so there're ample (cuz it wasn't too crowded) shelters and resting stops along the way. The boardwalk is very well built and the watchtower gave you an aerial view of the mainland coast.

What sucked was that IT WAS HIGH TIDE. During high tide there's like hardly anything to see. It was also about to rain. So lagi less animals/birds/dumb creatures to be seen.

So basically we just look see-ed around and took a few pictures but saw no low tide nature-lovers delights. We climbed to the second highest floor of the watchtower, giving the top unsheltered level a miss for fear of being struck by lightning. Haha.

Please go in the morning to catch the low tide by noon if any of you have any intention to visit after reading my raving review of the place.

That was about it. The big highlight of the trip was Changi Village Nasi Lemak!!!!! Choot choot!!!
______________________________________________________

Been quite stressed at work whole of this month. Unexpected things have happened and I can actually aim for something I never thought possible for myself. And I WANT to do it! But how? If anyone is keen to help please drop me a message.

Did I mention that I was finally promoted and given a little raise? Hooray!
______________________________________________________

Went back to Blangah Rise Primary School to give a motivational talk to the graduating class of 2007 last week.

It was my first time doing such a motivational talk and I wasn't sure what to expect. But luckily things turned out really okay and the teachers thought it was an inspirational job! Haha. I spoke past the half hour time slot and stretch it to almost an hour.

The primary 6 classes look very promising and I hope I made a difference in their lives!______________________________________________________

KRABI NEXT WED!!!!

Whoot!!!

Will be back with a nice picture or two.

Something's wrong with my blogger. I can't add a title to my post.

But what the hey, I can't think of the title right now anyway.

The week has been really busy. Time flies when you're busy. Before you know it, its the weekend again. Haiz. But times are good right now. Making as much hay as I can while the sun shines. I really dunno how long the sun will keep shining, but in this line of work, we gotta always take things one month at a time.

Yesterday evening both our office receptionists got the sack. Like WTF lor. Such a lousy timing and so sudden while everyone else was enjoying Friday bar. Haiz, there is a part of me that is always mentally prepared that I will be asked to leave someday too. And thats life in my industry. Here's wishing you all the best, Elly and Aida.

Like friggin' protitutes we all are. Once you're old and ugly and cannot get anymore customers, you're forced to exit the industry altogether. No second chances and no sympathy.

Welcome to Singapore Inc.

Chilled out in Dragonfly again with the boyz. We're so regular there now that the door bitch knows us. The Chocolate band knows some of us. The waiters know us. Haha. Good thing is that we don't drink too much and there's no smoking in there anymore! So its live bands and early chill out sessions for us! Choots! Oh and met Leon last night and introduced him to my brothers from work! Haha. Sweet...at least they'll see alot more of each other erm....by the time I get married *bleah*

Going to Krabi next next week!!! Whoot! Happy. Finally bought the tix and boooked the hotel. Chun found this really lush villa resort for cheap! So we're gonna try it out. Pix and details after the trip. Flying there by Tiger Airways on $29.99 tix. Cheap!

That'll be all for now.

Transformers Is Da Bomb

Crazy stuff. Loved it terribly. I think I'm so gonna watch it again.

If you haven't caught it, please do. Especially if you grew up religiously watching it at 6.30pm on TV during weekdays when you were in primary or secondary school.

Check up on the trailer right here.

More than meets the eye.

First Field Soccer Game of 2007

Helped make up the numbers in a friend's company's friendly game at Tanglin Secondary School.

Unfortunately the game lasted only one half when we were chased out of the premises due to the bad weather and an absent referee.

I think I almost collapsed or at least my lungs almost did even though I didn't think I ran very much. Haiz, stupid big field. It didn't help at all when the people we were up against were a bunch of army/uni kids who were much much fitter (think I was one of the youngest for my team) than our old team of geezers.

Nonetheless we were only trailing 0-1 before we stopped.

I ended the game with a grazed (ouch) knee and a bruised fist courtesy of someone's boot landing on my hand when I slipped over the slippery grass surface.

The only good part was that some of the geezers thought I was really good and sibeh piah (you're kidding right?), so they've invited me to join them in the next available friendly.

I gotta do this more often.

Dazed

As you can tell from this post (ok, so you probably can't), I'm still in a daze.

Maybe its fate.

Maybe its luck.

But maybe years and years from now when I look back at how I bought my first home, I hope I'll be telling myself, "We are indeed blessed."

Bus No 10

Once upon a time, 3 little schoolboys boarded the bus no 10 home from school. There was tall boy, tony leung, and ugly dog.

On the way up the upper deck of the double-decker bus, the boys walked past this hot chick who turned out to be tall boy's friend from way back when. The hot chick reminded him who she was and that she always saw him take the 196 bus in the mornings to work. Tall boy couldn't even remember her name, though hot chick remained quite hot.

From then on, tony leung and ugly dog kept pestering tall boy to introduce hot chick to them. Three little schoolboys, sitting at the back of the bus, laughing and giggling and egging each other to go talk to her.

Ugly dog, being the natural pimp that he was, really wanted very much to get to know hot chick. He thought of all kinds of ways to introduce himself. He thought of asking tall boy to intro him, then thought of asking tony leung to go with him, then thought of walking up to her all alone. How brave.

He almost successfully jio-ed tony leung to go with him, and they were doing the knuckle-to-knuckle jab over and over again to confirm both will support each other. In the end tony leung backed out. Ugly dog wouldn't give up, and as the pressure mounted from the other two boys, he almost found himself leaving his seat to find hot chick. He kept looking to the front, at her beautiful hair, then turning to the other two boys as if to inspire more support to attempt his daring deed.

But in the end, all he could do was watch forlornly from the upper storey window as hot chick alighted the bus prematurely. What a wasted opportunity, he said.

And so nothing actually happened.

On bus no 10.

The End.

HDBs @ Sengkang

I must say that with the local property market spiralling out of control, we've been relegated to searching even further away from the East.

Enter Sengkang, which IMHO is gonna be the next Bishan (c'mon, give it 5 more years). Anyway, we were there looking at flats near the NEL this whole friggin' hot afternoon. All of them were of walking distance to central, and in fact two of them actually caught my eye and I'm almost ready to move to Sengkang liaoz.

So much so that the girlfriend and I familiarized ourselves with Compass Point and even walked to the shprtlisted flats for sale just to see if they were really that much of a chore. And you know what? Things were pretty alright.

I must say Sengkang is almost like a nice little enclave hidden from the bustle and spiral of the rest of the crazy foreign/local property speculators/buyers trying to get into a piece of our little island. In fact, people seem to be MOVING OUT! For only one reason: U-P-G-R-A-D-I-N-G.

Darn, everyone must be getting rich but me.

So I've gotta say, that even though this little gem of a heartland is not my first choice to live in, its fought itself against numourous odds to lie nicely in second place.

Cable and an XBox 360 console will be on top of my shopping list when I move into my new home!

Watch this space.

Saturday Diploma

Haiz. Spent the whole of the good day in our office training room attending our sponsored diploma course. Boring as hell and yet have to try and tahan the ordeal since its always good to add more papers to our resume (MY educational system taught me this).

The training marked the end of some 6 months of on-off (mostly off) studying and ended with an online exam which I scored a good enough pass of 80%! And so we have all completed the 1st of 4 modules (I think), of a European diploma whose name I cannot remember anymore. But its finance something something, and it covers basically every investment instrument under the sun! Haha.

Anybody who knows what this diploma we're doing is called please comment!

Choot choot!

Afterthat we all celebrated with a SGD700+++ dinner at the nearby Sushi Tei. Dun ask me how we spent so much. I get full and sick of sashimi just thinking about it.

Sometimes, People Deserve To Know Earlier

Its tough, I know.

But sometimes, more time should be spared for mourning.

For after the agony of despair always comes the optimism of hope.

And a new beginning.

That is when we will all be happy once again.

Let your friends rejoice, not feel sadness!

Still Can't Figure Out What Went Wrong

With my previous posts.

Anyway, things are going ok. Not doing too well this month, so decided to take things easy and buckle up for June.

Was upset that Chelsea won the FA Cup when we actually played better. Hmph.

The Agony Of Getting FIRED

I really should've blogged about this much earlier, when my memory was still fresh and lingering.

Its utterly horrible.

No words can describe it.

The sight of seeing a few good buddies being told that they've been released by the company. Terrible. Just so ruthless is the environment we're in that nobody's safe from "not contributing enough towards the revenue of the company".

It happened on Tuesday. We even had a good celebratory cheer about Man U winning the championship when I got in to work that morning. We talked about the Macquarie Warrants tradegame that we all joined and how we were gonna win it. Too bad I missed lunch as I had to meet some ex-colleagues. It happened after lunch when the first him was innocently asked to go into a meeting with them. Nobody knew exactly what was going on but something was just not right.

When it was all over, he was escorted out of the office. Didn't even have a chance to pack up and leave. Escorted out of the office. Wahlao.

Then they also called the second him in also. This time around there was abit more grace. He was allowed to come back to his desk to pack up, under a manager's supervision. And then he too was escorted out.

That was even more terrible in fact. The fact that you have all your colleagues' eyes fixated on you as you turn off your PC for the last time and pack up all your belongings. All this while the watchful eyes of the manager makes sure you are not doing anything suspiscious.

We were all confused. Blur. Went down to try to catch them and find out what was going on in that meeting room. I could see alot of anger. I could see alot of pain. I could see alot of sadness.

They were given two simple choices. To resign on their own accord, or to be terminated by the company. Sign, and you pack up and leave immediately. Everything else, get a colleague to pack it up for you. There are no other alternatives.

We had a final dinner together at Burger King that evening, and the rest of us still had to go back to office for the FX Seminar. Haiz.

Yesterday was round 2. One more was let go. Another was transfered to marketing.

In total, 3 were release and one was transfered out of my department. By last night, my team had shrunk from the original 12 when we first came in, to the current 7.
____________________________________________________

It is times like these that you do wonder what's really good for you. You fear being treated with such ruthlessness. And yet you somehow come to expect it in this line of work. Once you don't meet the grade, you're asked to move on. Indeed, only the fittest survived.

I have lost some pretty close colleagues. And the office is all the quieter without them bantering and being silly and making jokes. The Gears of War email thread has lost an integral member. The Golfing buddies have lost two key members. One less smoker in the company.

Somehow, things will never be the same again. And yet, we have to keep moving forward.

We have to get over this quickly and reach for greater heights, or the ones who have left would have left in vain.

HDBs @ Pasir Ris

I must be really unfit when I wake up finding myself utterly tired and fatigued from the golf game yesterday.

Today we went to look at HDBs in the further east, having already seen enough private condos (which we can hardly afford). We saw 4 HDB apartments in the Pasir Ris area and 1 in Simei.

I can't speak of Simei yet because I think I haven't seen enough there, but I JUST CAN'T live in Pasir Ris.

Thats right.

And its not because its a lousy estate. Its actually quite a great place and the estate's pretty new (like 10-15yrs old?) with lots of good amenities like Downtown East (never been there), White Sands and the like. Very residential and serene, close to the sea with a very nice park.

The killer - no offence to Pasir Ris residents - is the distance to town. I can just imagine getting to work will be a bitch. Shopping in town will never happen ever again. Going home to mom's will be painful. Visiting in-laws would REALLY suck. And basically getting to any other location in Singapore would require a mandatory second and possible third thought. Its just too far out from the rest of the world.

Just too far out.

Thats not to mention that Pasir Ris has the 2nd or 3rd highest HDB transaction prices.

Ooooh, that hurts.

Sebana Cove

Just back from our golf trip at Sebana Cove, Desaru, Malaysia.

It was way fun!!!

We met at 7am this morning at Tanah Merah ferry terminal to take the ferry ride there. Originally there was gonna be 8 of us, but Jackson pulled out at the last minute due to high fever. To make matters worse, Wilbur forgot to bring his passport?! Who ever forgets his passport when travelling overseas???! Anyway he had to go home to take it (he lived in the west) and therefore could only come on the next ferry ride which was in the afternoon.

So it was Youlong, Edmund, Eugene, Fadz, Marcus and myself starting it out.

The ferry ride was about an hour and a half. Lousy ferry, it was the Pulau Tekong BMT kind with no canteen or snack bar small small type. Bleah.

When we reached we were driven to the resort called Sebana Cove in Desaru. After a quick and expensive breakfast, we started our game.

I can't really describe the full game at length as not to bore non-golf readers (and because I'm not too sure myself), but we have to play 18 holes in total, and see what kind of score we had.

I must say that as an anti-golfer once, it was more fun that I thought. The greens and holes were tough and there required not only good hitting skills, but you also needed to plan your advance to get to the hole with as little strokes.

Youlong, Edmund and myself were grouped in one flight (its a group game) so we competed against one another.

Anyway *yawn*, I carded a score of 77. For the first 9 holes! Haha. But as the day wore on and got so much hotter, I improved and got used to the conditions and eventually carded a 69 for the last 9 holes, giving me a total score of 146, not counting double-pars (if you wanna know what that means, email me.)

That ranks me as amongst the worse scorers, but hey, its my virgin golf game, mind you. I ain't no Tiger Woods.

I also ended up losing 8 balls, because I hit them in the forest or water or mysteriously disappeared.

And I CANNOT hit anything that lands in the bunker/sand wedge.

Finally we reached back TMFT at 6 plus after a good bath.

Went for a crazy fattening hawker dinner at Changi Village.

Then trooped to the opposite kopitiam to watch Manchester United play Everton.
_____________________________________________________________

Manchester United came from 0-2 down to win 4-2!!! Chelsea went from 2-1 up to draw 2-2 against Bolton!!!

We are 5 points clear!!!

Screamed my throat hoarse at Changi Village.

We are so gonna win the Premiership.

Night Shifter

How silly.

I came into work early today completely forgetting that I was on the late shift. Geez. That leaves me working 13 hours straight till 10pm later.

Well at least I get internet connection here. Its gonna take quite awhile before I get the home PC connected online.

PC Down

My PC is down.

*sobz*

Just got it fixed but there's not gonna be internet connection for quite awhile.

Last week was pretty hectic.

Monday and Tuesday nights were spent bringing my PC to Sim Lim and going for golfing range. Wednesday was spent at the Private Banking Conference at the Grand Hyatt followed by an in-house seminar in the evening. Thursday was still at the Grand Hyatt and followed by an SMU seminar in the evening. Friday was spent at Plaza ParkRoyal at the AustCham networking event.

Tired.

Ice Ice Baby

We were at the Scandinavian Business Bar yesterday held at Indochine @ Clarke Quay.

Felt real weird that there were hardly any locals amongst us.

Didn't feel like a very fruitful night (except that beer and wine were flowing freely) until around 11 when we decided to try the ice room.

-8 degrees celsius with everything made out of ice. That's how cold it was in there. There was a charge of $15 per entry for as long as you could stay in there, with a free shot of vodka thrown in, so it didn't seem that exhorbitant. How cold could it be right?

In fact Lasse was the one who initiated our entry, buying the first round of vodka for everyone. The only thing we agreed upon entry was that none of us were gonna wear the Parka fur coats they provided and the first one to get out of the ice room would be a whimpy cat.

The room was like an eskimo's igloo with everything constructed out of ice bricks. Though there here wasn't much in that room besides a bench and the bar made out of ice. So all we could do was shiver in the blowing cold (damn they added the chilling winds too, for effect!) while Lasse kept reminding us that it felt like a warm summer day in Copenhagan! I could vaguely remember him rubbing his nipples and showing us that they haven't hardened yet.

I think the rest of us lasted for a pathetic 10 minutes in there max and were shivering so badly I was spilling my vodka (it was only a shot glass somemore!) all over the place. Brief gay moments flashed before our eyes as we started going delirious in the cold and got closer and closer to huddling group-hug style. Eeeew. It was a short moment after that before we all decided to be whimpy cats and came out.

Phew. Tough torture but fun. We were so cold in there we just kept laughing at our own suffering.

Then we did it all over again! This time with Aly and Thomas! For a 2nd time!

Lasse and Thomas says we Singaporeans must love torturing ourselves for kick because there's nothing else to do here.

One more time!

My Battle of Thermopylae

Its been tough over the last few weeks.

Project after seminar after project after seminar.

Late nights at work.

Constant brain-wrecking.

We shouldn't even be doing all this.

Some people just arn't doing their jobs and we're left with no choice if we want to survive.

I could just go on ranting, but it'll be to no avail.

It is dark days this period alright.

Then again nothing is without a silver lining.

April is supposed to be a good month for me, fengshui-wise.

Hoping for the best.

But expecting the worst.

I am proud of the few who keep fighting forward.

Praise The Weekend

I guess I must have not blogged long enough when someone's gotta ask me to update my "friggin'" blog.

Hmm.

It sucks that I can't add anymore Melinda Doolittle Youtube vids because they've all been taken down. You people really have to go watch her performances last week and the week before. I'm totally rooting for her to win or at least come in 2nd. Only Lakisha can do better.

Last Tuesday I had the honour of being invited out for a casual dinner with an almost successful entrepreneur (scrapmetal dealer) and a top Citibank banker (spent 12 years there). Both of whom were pretty inspiring. One was the brother of my dear primary school pal, who set us all up because he wanted to hear our views on investment and the current global economy.

Its a good thing when such an invite comes around only because important people want to hear what you've got to say that will actually affect the very fabric of their existance (ok, so it may not be THAT important). Nonetheless I was honoured alright.
____________________________________________________

I was at the British Chamber of Commerce function together with Arun yesterday.

I only volunteered to go because it was a stone's throw from office.

It was pretty interesting for a networking event because everyone was just so friendly and approachable (largely helped by free flow alcohol), namecards ever ready to be chucked in my face. And it seemed no one liked the company they worked at (think a top Swiss investment bank). Damn Brits. Dunno the good life they're having compared to us.

It got pretty bad when the place ran out of beer (them Brits once more) and there was only a single bartender at hand. Until some of them just walked to the neighbouring pub to buy bucket-loads of pints.

Was fun.
___________________________________________________

Today I was at the Australian Chamber of Commerce function with Mark, Sandra and Nicole.

Was alot better and more pro than yesterday's event.

It was a wine and cheese tasting function which was way cool just cuz I love cheese. There was even a Persian carpet aunction which they started only AFTER everyone was high and giddy on wine and beer.

Can you imagine that poor sod who cheered hysterically when he successfully bid SGD3,500 for a 3' X 4' lousy rug? He'll probably wake up tomorrow morning lying in his own puke on his rug, outside Marina Square!

Anyway.....Man U plays Bolton this weekend. Hope they win!!!

K thats all for now!

Of Earthquakes And Golf

I was in the office today busy with a customer on the phone when suddenly everyone around me started looking panicky. An earthquake off Sumatra apparently swayed our building and the tremor was felt quite significantly since we were on the 30th floor.

Funnily enough I was still oblivious to everything while the office emptied. It was only when the last of the staff left the office that I got off the phone to leave as well, not really knowing what was going on.

Alas, the public announcement came just when we were pressing the lift informing us that we had to take the stairs! Wah lao! It was like the vertical marathon down-stairs!

Took me a good 15minutes of cyclical brisk walking before I reached the ground floor. Was sweating away and irritated as hell. Huffed and puffed irritatingly as I was late meeting Kin Wah for lunch. Thighs are currently aching as I type.

After lunch around 2pm, just as I reached Samsung Hub thinking everything was back to normal, I was stopped from taking the lifts! For the second time, another public announcement told everyone to empty the building. Wah heng I wasn't in office siah! Else had to walk down a 2nd time!

It was quite an adventure, but pretty disruptive. In the end we were told to stay away from the building for 2 hours while they did some checks. So the company gave us the rest of the day off since there was hardly anything we could do.

Raffles Place was a mass orgy of people I tell you!

Where were YOU during the tremors?!

I hope the Indonesian situation gets better. Damage seems quite bad. Bless them.

In other news, I was at the Marina Bay Driving Range last night breaking into my brand new golf set!

Was so exciting. The 8 of us looked like a long and tough vehicle convoy driving into Tanjong Rhu. And its cheap to go there to hit away! Eugene's quite a good coach and is really patient with my lack of discipline (Y-axis? right foot? thumbs down?)

Anyway I kinda suck at golf (was never my thing). Think I'll be signing up for pro lessons with a few of them soon.

Liverpool 0 Man U 1

Biggest game of the season.

We're totally dominated throughout the match (with hardly a good shot on goal).

Scholes is sent off.

Then O'Shea rams it home from 6 yards out in the 92nd minute. What a dream end. I think I screamed till the whole of Changi could hear me.

Happy like anything.

American Idol Season 6 - Final 24

Just when I thought I'd lost the TV for good, I get sucked back by my favourite reality show, American Idol!

This season of AI started off ok-ish. The audition rounds weren't the most interesting, in fact, AI is in fact more of a reality show (one that's produced to entertain) than a singing contest. Go figure!

So anyway the exciting episodes have only just begun. The final 24 have been selected and I've proudly sat through 4 hours of AI6 this week already (2hrs each Wed and Thur night), another hour tonight on the results show.

I must say that the male singers sucked on Wednesday, with only Blake and Phil being the only notable performances. But yesterday's female performance was da bomb! This is the year of the black belters really, with Lakisha, Melinda and Stephanie all bringing their 'A' game.

My favourite as of now is only Melinda Doolittle. Hope she gets far in the competition. She's definitely top 12 material lah. Check out her performance of Baby Sweet Baby last night!

Flood (Not The Jars of Clay Song)

Ok, so that sounded abit to kua zhang, but it sure felt really wet for awhile.

There I was at my desk contentedly making money off FXCM and having a ball of a time trading FX when I hear sounds of pitty-patter in the bathroom. So I curiously went over to check it out and 'lo and behold, the bathroom was leaking from the ceiling!

So there we were scrambling to plug the leak. Ma was removing all the stuff out of the bathroom while Pa was checking out where the problem was. I was busy wiping the flooded floor (when I wasn't taking pictures), haha.

Here's a picture of the flooded bathroom roof.

That's Pa doing what every man's gotta do - hide when his picture's taken!

And here is the flooded floor which isn't THAT obviously flooded but I swear at one point in time the water was like 10mm deep in certain crannies of the bathroom!

Looks pretty bad right? But guess what? The leak was plugged and now its all dried up.

Think tomorrow the maintenance man is coming.

How's that for a Monday highlight?

I'll see this as a good omen for our family. Got water flow past (the leak) and got mountain (the ladder) - you shan you shui (got mountain got water). We must be in for a windfall this coming CNY...

ASEAN Cup Champions Once More!

Hooray for Singapore!

So happy that we won.

Watched the match at the girlfriend's place.

I gotta say we played sucky football and our defence was horrendous and even atrocious (Aide Iskandar cheeky back-heel?!??!) at times but we weathered the Thai storm and Khairul Amri scored an amazing goal. Really an exciting match that kept even Chun (soccer helps her sleep better) at the edge of her seat, especially during the dying minutes.

Cheers to the Singapore team for giving us something to be proud of once again.

Go, Lions go!

Maybe I should watch less EPL, then my expectations wouldn't be so high.

Man U's leading 1-0 at halftime.

Hope they win too!

A Firm Compliment

"Why didn't you apply for it?"

"You were the first choice on their list, and they were hoping you applied for it."

"Maybe in the next round you should try for it."

Well, it was good enough. I dunno why but I left feeling really good about myself.

Hurt.

We were leading 1-0 from a Rooney header.

Then Saha came in and it went downhill from there.

Van Persie 84'
Henry 94'

That really hurt man. I thought we used to do this to teams, not the other way around.

Bummer.

Rainy Days Bring Rainy Thoughts

Another rainy weekend.

Its been raining for too much and too long now. Even my regular basketball plans are ruined. Haven't got much planned for today. Probably going back to office awhile before meeting the girlfriend to repair her hard-disk (which I dropped while helping her move her stuff) at Sim Lim and then maybe meet her gal friends to go hang out at a pub tonight.

This week's been just like the rain - damp. Nothing really exciting to crow about neither is there anything lousy that really happened. The rain was probably the highlight of the week.

Last night we were in this Brazilian meat-eaters restaurant along Sixth Avenue for a company dinner. I think it came down to approx. $70 per pax, and I didn't think the food was absolutely fantastic. But the atmosphere was good since I had my gum colleagues around me. We hung out till quite late and then as our boss - a large ang moh in his 50s, mind you - said that the night was still young, we adjorned to this place in Clarke Quay called The Clinic. It was fun but in line with the "I'm getting old" theme, I would've rather just have been sipping teh tarik at some kopitiam.

The only other significant thing I did was on Monday when I went to Dragonfly @ St James Powerhouse with Ah Huat, Led and the Tanjong Pagar gang. It was Robert's farewell - he had been abruptly transfered to Bendemeer branch - and we met up to have a good chat. Still feels great that he thinks so highly of me. Maybe because I still owe him a dinner at Equinox for losing our personal bet.

Dragonfly was really nice. I liked the cheap beer ($30 for a bucket of Heineken during Happy hour), the free entry (before 9pm, weekdays) and the great live performances. Quite nice, the crowd was much older and mature (which I somehow liked) and it was fun to see cliques of 40-yr old aunties living it up and gyrating on the dancefloor like in mambo (though for shorter stints, longer skirts and more cloth *cringe*). All in all was a good night because we got to hear of Simon's troubles (just weeks before his wedding?!) and all the gossip I've missed out.

In other more obscure news, I managed to make contact with two really good old friends last week. One was Brandie, who found me on hotmail and we've been chatting online eversince. She was my best friend during summer camp'04 in Camp Chief Ouray and I even visited her in Pittsburgh for a couple of days (thrashed her mom as Scrabble) before I flew back to Singapore.

The other was Mervyn Teo, my JC2 classmate with the whacky hair and even whackier brains. This rebel artist of sorts has finally made it ok in the US of A. Works for CNN and bought himself a bachelor's pad in Atlanta, this guy is finally realising his dreams of becoming *cringe* an artist/photographer/dancer/akido/martial art/musician! Or so he claims. Still, it was nice connecting with them again after all these years.

Thats about it for now.

You can almost feel like its drizzling out there right now, cant you?

A Night In The Office

Bummer.

So here I am blogging away in office. Such a bummer to be working the late night shift on a lovely Friday night. But what the hey, its not as bad as it seems. Good time to catch up with the paperwork.

Life's still pretty good, though there's alot more pressure now that we're finally on the ground running, and everyone seems to be doing very well. Gotta struggle to keep up with the leaders.

Anyway, as a reply to my previous post, I have listed the below:

1) My HEALTH goal for 2007 is to maintain at least Silver for my IPPT for my 28th birthday.

2) My WEALTH goal for 2007 is, as mentioned as my resolution, to earn twice as much this year as I did last year.

3) My PERSONAL SELF goal for 2007 is to save enough money to hit my budget (yes, THAT budget) that I planned for this year.

4) My SOCIAL SELF goal for 2007 is to volunteer for a significantly good cause at least ONCE and donate more money to charity than I did in 2006.

Haha.

Ok, I finally did it. Set my goals for all to see. I sure hope I achieve them, so that come 31st Dec 2007 I can proudly dig out this blog post and say I achieved all of the goals I set for myself.

If you remember MY goals, feel free to egg me on about them. You've got a full year to tease me for all its worth.

What are YOUR goals for 2007?

How to Achieve Anything in 2007

"The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never scoring." - Bill Copeland

I set myself up for failure...

Foolishly, one year ago, I shared my "Goals for 2006" with you. Perhaps more foolishly, I promised to report back to you a year later on how I did on meeting those goals.

I did this because of my multimillionaire friend Michael Masterson. He’s launched successful business after successful business. And he told me what he believes is a key secret to his success...

"At the beginning of each year, I write down a single goal for the year in four areas of life: health, wealth, social, and personal. And I make each goal significant, yet specific."

I took him up on it. I figured if I tried and failed, at least I tried. So I set significant, but specific goals. For my health, the goal was to get in better shape. Specifically, I said I’d reduce my body fat percentage by 15%. And I said I’d get there by making specific improvements in my diet and by training for a 10-plus mile paddleboard race.

I’m pleased to report that I achieved those goals. I cut the weight, and I competed in a 12-mile race around Key West in May. (I didn’t even come in last... but I did cross the finish line a full hour after the winner.)

In 2007, I’m going to do it again.

I’d like to get healthier... Specifically, I’d like to reduce my body fat percentage by another 15% (don’t worry, I’ve got it to lose). And this year, I’d like to qualify for and compete in the Catalina Classic paddleboard race in August. It’s 32 miles from Catalina Island to Manhattan Beach. This is daunting... but so was last year’s goal at the time.

In last year’s letter, I said, "If all goes well, I’ll weigh less, be more fit, be wealthier, be able to sing a bit, and have made the world a little better place than I left it the year before."

I’m proud to report that all of those goals came true in 2006. And I strongly feel that writing them down, and knowing that I had to be accountable to you in a year’s time, made a big difference. It sounds strange, but I didn’t want to let you down.

The biggest thing that setting these four goals did for me was it focused my energies for the year.

Instead of pursuing all kinds of different things (as I usually would), I focused on accomplishing four specific things... things that I’d thought a lot about and decided were important to me.

I strongly urge you to do what I’m doing... to take a good amount of time and write down what you really want to accomplish in 2007. Set one goal in each of these four areas:

1. Your health
2. Your wealth
3. Your personal self (hobbies and interests)
4. Your social self (friends, family, and community)

And remember to make sure that each goal is significant, yet specific.

Also I highly recommend that you write these goals down and share them with someone that you’ll feel accountable to a year from now. Make yourself a promise that you’ll go over those goals with that person one year from now to see how you did.

Last year was one of the best years of my life, if not the best. I feel like it was particularly fulfilling - in part because I accomplished what I set out to do. As the quote at the beginning says: "The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never scoring."

Set those four goals now... and make sure they’re significant, but specific!

Best wishes in the New Year,

Dr. Steve Sjuggerud

Happy New Year Everyone!

Happy 2007 everyone!!!

Here's wishing every one of my dear friends a blessed and prosperous new year ahead!

Spent the New Year's eve at Bock Lian's place playing mahjong with Leon and Hwi Kiat! Haha. Didn't win $$ but we had fun. Watched the countdown on TV. Doesn't seem like much fanfare this year.

My New Year resolutions are:

1) Speed less.

2) Earn twice as much this year as last year

3) Listen to a lower volume on my Ipod

Thats about it. Lets all hope 2007 will be an even better year than last year!
