Streets Of Siglap

Got to appreciate some of the back alleys of Frankel and Siglap when our car had some problems.

Luckily there is a service centre really close to home.

So when walking back on foot from there I managed to take a few nice pictures of the back alleys of this neighbourhood I grew up in.

Hopefully one day I can afford a landed house here.

Haha. Huat ah!

JPM Corporate Challenge 2023

We ran this year as a company again after so many years. First time we participated again since Covid.

And I posted a pretty good timing of 33mins+.

Definitely better than I expected.

And at the end point, they even took a really triumphant photo of me and posted it on their website.

Such glory.

Blue Skies

After Covid, I’ve been very appreciative of being able to go out and smell the fresh air.

Running is still one of my favourite pastimes and where else better to run than at ECP?

Just look at this view.

Cai Fan

So much talk about cai fan.

Nowadays a $4 plate of rice with food is also difficult to find.

Here’s a snippet of a regular lunch for me at my favourite cai fan stall at the coffee shop at the end of Boat Quay. Pricing is very decent too.

2meat+1veg=$3.80

Plus fish= +$4

Total is $7.80

Quite decent if you asked me.

Singapore Rugby Sevens

A week after returning from HK and their infamous Sevens, it was time for the Singapore version.

Definitely not as happening. Quite a bit of contrast in fact.

Yet still a good attempt perhaps.

The National Stadium wasn’t very full but I think the participants and audience still enjoyed it.

New Zealand won yet again! Well done!

Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre

Who knew there was such a place?

It was so cool!

Good for us descendants of Chinese immigrants to reconnect with our roots, and find out more about what makes us so unique among the Chinese diaspora in Singapore.

Definitely would recommend anyone to give this place a visit!

Hong Kong, China 2023

Went to HK for work in late May, early April.

Worked for a week out of the HK office and then stayed the weekend to catch the HK Rugby Sevens and help out with the hospitality there.

Great fun, awesome company and really good food.

Glad that HK has opened up even if it’s about a year behind us.

HK really needs to continue to prosper in order for Singapore to prosper.

During my trip, someone told me this interesting theory. Singapore and Hong Kong should not be considered rivals. We need Hong Kong as much as Hong Kong needs us. This is because we are two cities where the rich and poor coexist in the most blended way, with a middle income that is largely affluent. So among Asian cities we both have to be around to show that such systems can work. If one fails, the other will crumble too as populism and begrudging discontent among not only the poor but middle class will fester and overspill into a change of political and economic system. Discontent with the rich and successful is never a good ingredient for forward progress.

Hence both SG and HK have to thrive together.

Onward to both!

Here are some random pictures of my stay, which was mainly in Central. So I was hanging out in SoHo, MidLevels and LKF those kinda areas.
