Hello 2011, Goodbye 2010!

The time has come once again to review my resolutions from the year gone by. I really am making this quite a regular thing arn't I? So proud of myself...

Here's my review from last year.

I think if I took a (pretty large) step back and saw the whole year of 2010 pan out in its entirety, 2010 has been a fairly good year for me. There were alot of downs, but then there were alot of ups too. In fact I'd say there were way more ups than downs compared to the year before that. It has been another year of reflection, learning and growth once again, but more importantly, maturity has also egged its way to the frontlines.

It is a year where I hope I've improved on my financial situation. Keeping debt as low as possible and trying to work on different pronged outlets for passive income. It's also a year that heralded the new addition in my family, and my role as a father which is only at its infancy. It is a year where I feel a deep mellowing inside of me, for reasons yet unknown. Also a year where I hardly made any new friendships, lost a few, but spent more time re-enforcing and maintaining my existing circle.

There is alot to hope for in 2011...

Anyway, here's a review of my 2010 resolutions.

1) Persue A Healthier Lifestyle
This is abit of a downer because I hardly play football anymore, except for the occasional Saturday kickabout. I hardly go to the gym anymore, even though I extended my gym membership (waste money), which I now only use to take the occasional mid-day shower. And I don't exercise any way else. So there's no excuse for this. A definitely a failure. FAIL

2) Save More Cash
I'm still a big spender and its something that will take a long time to change. That said, I have made strides. Tremendous strides, at turning this around. With that, I've seen a nice steady increase in my savings over the months this year. Am also utilising all avenues to save for retirement (bit of a cliche, but its true!). So this has been a success. PASS

3) Earn More From Investments
At this point of publishing, my overall investments are up approximately 20% to date for the year. It is short of my overall target of around 50% because I have taken significantly higher risks in my trading and investment decisions hoping for a better return. Still I guess going green is always better than going red right? PASS

4) Spend More Effort Keeping In Touch With Old Friends
Oooh, this one I think I definitely have done quite well at. Like I mentioned, I haven't really forged many new friendships, but at least I can say that I've made more effort reinforcing my existing ones and I'm thankful for this. It is a well known fact that the older you grow, the harder it is to make true friends. People just come and go as aquaintances. Trust becomes less forthcoming because people have different agendas. But the one thing you cannot take away is the past camaraderie and experience you've shared when you were younger. I've even actively cleaned up my Facebook on a quarterly basis. PASS

5) Spend More Time At Home
Well, with a baby in da house, how can I fail this one? I'm spending more time at home and going out less. But it's not like I'm complaining, because coming home to the wifey and son is just about the best thing I look forward to in recent memory. PASS

So 4/5 really is a pretty good result when people always say resolutions are meant to be broken!

2011 is going to be a year of hope for me. Hope for things around be to become even better than they already are. Wealthier, healthier, and happier.

May everyone of you readers have a very happy 2011!

Wow. What a year gone by!

22 Points

That's the number of points separating the top team (Manchester United) and the bottom team (Wolverhampton Wolves) at Christmas. This is amazing stuff. Never have I seen the league this close before. And it is really true that the standard of the league is getting better with alot of supposed mediocre teams playing very good football too.Yet somehow I get the feeling that Manchester United will run away with the title by the time January comes around.

Go Man Yoo!!!!

I'm also going to make a punt for Blackburn getting relegated this season after their purchase by India's Venky's. The sacking of Allardyce is simply mind-boggling, and clearly shows that the new owners have no idea what they're dealing with. Good luck to them!

Anyway Manchester United just beat Sunderland 2-0 at home last night with 2 goals from Berbatov. Not bad, not bad.

China

This week's Economist extrapolated that China's economy will exceed that of the USA in 2019.

Three weeks ago the same magazine dedicated 14 pages in a special pull-out on the threat China posed to the rest of the world (actually it was the USA in particular)

Perhaps we are starting to have visual on the beginning of the next world war?

Wonder where Singapore will be if it happens?

Time to consider buying that getaway home in New Zealand.

The End Of America As We Know It

This is an extremely bleak outlook of the US economy.

I've been subscribing to Stansberry's free newsletters for 4-5 years now and they've always provided very good insight of the world's economics and finances to the retail investor. Too bad I haven't been compelled enough to make a paid subscription yet.

Bewarned that his assessment is very bleak. Right after reading the article I just felt like shorting the USD right away. Haha. Thankfully it's a Saturday and all the markets are closed (except the local fish market).

I always knew the US economy was going downhill, but just how bad?

Remember to read it with a pinch of salt, he does exaggerate sometimes, and don't be too tempted by his sales pitch at the bottom of the article. It's very enticing, I know. Why do you think Porter Stansberry is so respected an economist, but also such a rich man? It's from these newsletters and his books.

But then if you did PAY for the subscription, please share the revelations with me thank you :)

Read it here.

GCB

Just read the latest issue of The Edge.

Can't help but wonder what it's like to be as rich as Stephen Riady or Harry Chua. To be able to shell out millions upon millions to own so much land in Singapore, tear down the old and build something new. That's trully fulfilling their dreams and visions. Something that money definitely can buy. I wish I were that rich too.

If I wanted to buy a bungalow now, I think I'll need at least $3 million. Even to start off with the cheapest landed property (a terrace) in an accessible district I'd need at least $1.5 million.

Wonder when I can save up all that money.

Speaking of which, I think the current low interest rate environment is a HUGE money trap to alot of young Singaporeans buying property. They borrow at the maximum they can afford thinking that these low rates will stay, thereby stretching themselves on as much monthly payments they can afford, to buy the most expensive HDB/condo they think is within their means.

C'mon, the SIBOR has been hovering around 0.5-0.7% for the last year, and the average for the last 20 years has been around 3%. What are the odds that the rates will stay so low for much longer?

And when these rates start moving up, the banks will obviously revise their rates (the best fixed rate you can get is locked for 3 years max), meaning an increase in instalments. And we're talking about a very substantial increase. By then people will have problems trying to meet these payments.

So if they can't meet the payments regularly, they are forced to sell their property and downsize. When so many sellers start coming out into the market, the mass-market and affluent property sector will crash.

And because valuations drop so much, the value of people's homes drop BELOW their loan amounts. Banks have to recall their loans and request payment from clients to top up their property payments to meet Loan-to-Valuation ratios. Property prices will crash further.

Which is why it's actually a good thing to stick to HDB interest rates of 2.6% even though that may sound high. Because don't forget, your CPF is paying you 2.5% of your balance.

So keep your eyes peeled for any movement in the SIBOR!

By then, hopefully I will be ready to step into the property market :)

Champions League Draw

We take on Marseille.

Chelsea takes on Copenhagen.

Arsenal takes on Barcelona.

Tottenham takes on AC Milan.

I think we got a pretty good draw which we should win with ease. Chelsea also got lucky. Arsenal and Tottenham are going to have it extremely tough to overcome their opponents.

The draw of the round actually goes to Inter taking on Bayern, a repeat of last year's finals. Given the state of play this season from the two weakened teams, Bayern should edge this tie.

Man U to be champs!

Manchester United 1 Arsenal 0

Park Ji Sung strikes once again!

Whoot!

Top of the table with one game in hand, if we beat Chelsea next weekend, we're good enough for the title!

Anwar

Suddenly when WikiLeaks says the Singapore government sources could ascertain that Anwar poked another man's backside, all disbelieving Malaysians sit up and listen.

Looks like the fag did it guys, wake up your ideas!

Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Would you vote for a corrupted politician, or a bisexual one who lies through his teeth?

Manchester City Cannot Win This League Season

Ok maybe they might do it, but I sure as hell hope they don't.

1. They don't play attractive football
Making defense your primary ethos with more defensive midfielders than any other team in the EPL spells b-o-r-e-f-e-s-t.

2. There's a much better team in the same league from that city.
There's only one United.

3. Mancini irritates me because he has no control of his own dressing room.
Letting your charges constantly air their grievances, shouting at each other over substitutions, all means lack of authority. Maybe a better manager can bring out even more from the squad.

4. There's too much disharmony in the squad.
Given their current wage disparity with the rest of the league, pandering to egos are the name of the game. Which incidentally leads to less teamwork and more selfish play.

5. No one wants a money squad to win.
You win through teamwork and hard work. Assembling a stellar all star cast simply by throwing more money around than anyone can possibly fathom just reeks of arrogance and elitism. Nobody wants them to win.

So glad the weekend is here.

Finally can get some rest.

Been working almost 12 consecutive days.

Need to spend more time at home while I still can.

The Breakout

Anyone started watching this channel 8 drama yet?

Looks like Mediacorp is pulling out all the stops with this mega stellar cast of almost all of their famous actors and actresses.

Hope it's better than The Score.

Haha.

Trader Interview

This clip's been making its rounds in our office circles recently.

Its hilarious!

If you don't find it funny, then you're probably not from the industry either :P

Seventh Heaven

Can't believe Man U beat Blackburn 7-1 last night.

And I missed the match because I was too tired.

Berbatov scored 5 goals!

Trully amazing.

We Were Young Once

If your parents kept any baby pictures of you, go spend some time looking through them after all these years.

You'd be surprised by the nostalgia.

Polo Boys Fail

Wanted to post a couple of pictures of our Singapore water polo team at the Guangzhou Asian Games. It's super hilarious with our flag's crescent and stars painted across the front and the crescent strategically printed right in the middle.

What a joke.

Just like a spoilt brat.

How long can these acts of provocation go on?

Thanks for dragging the world's markets down, losers.

Amazing Day For The Reds

We beat Wigan 2-0 at home, albeit not very convincingly. Wayne Rooney still looks a shadow of his former self. Chelsea suffer a shock 0-1 loss to Birmingham. But the bigger shocker of the night for me was arsenal losing 2-3 at home to Tottenham. I had already retired to sleep after a tired day when Arsenal was up 2-0 in the first half thinking the win was a foregone conclusion. Must have been one of the greatest comebacks for those lily whites.

So now we sit 2nd on the table level on points with Chelsea. Haha.

We might actually win a couple of trophies this season for all you know.

The Luck Of The Irish

Has run out.

Now they're next to be bailed out.

Who's next?

Portugal.

Then Spain.

Then Italy.

And the EU continues it's slow and painful death.

All I can say is thank goodness we're all the way out here in Asia!

Opportunity in the markets! That's all I can say.

Should have seen this coming when that European banker stood up to confront an American banker during last year's Private Banking Asia forum, to challenge him that the Euro was much worse off than the Dollar.

We're seeing the fight now.

The USD may be weaker now, but it's economy isn't as badly in the dumps as Europe could potentially be.

The fall of the old world is a slow but sure one right now.

Another Comeback

Manchester United are seriously not as good as before, but still we slog and try hard. This was shown in last night's game against Aston Villa where we came back from 2-0 down to draw the game.

Not a bad ending but you start to wonder what might have been if we played with a better tempo from the start instead of leaving it so late. Like SAF said, if we had another 5 minutes, we surely would have won the game.

Sigh.

Our own Singapore Young Lions are even worse. We lost 1-4 to India (land of cricket)! Taking the early flight home even before the official games opening. Aiyoh.

At least Tao Li won us a silver medal in the 100m butterfly. Quite proud of her.

Now just hoping Chelsea and Arsenal both lose or draw their games tonight. Geez, what are the chances man...haha.

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Do Or Die Tonight

Singapore 0 Kuwait 2

Ok, it's not like I expected our young Lions to beat Kuwait anyway.

Tonight we play India. We win, we might sneak into the round of 16. We lose, and it's probably over.

Sigh. The Manchester derby ended 0-0. Somehow I don't feel like it's a very bad result.

What's with all the latest rioting from ah bengs?

Let's lock them all up already!

Guangzhou Asian Games 2010 Football

Singapore 0 Qatar 0

So impressive that it deserves a blog post. Qatar are the reigning Asian Games champions and for Singapore to hold them to a draw, that's not a shabby result.

Given that we're in a tough group comprising of Kuwait and India as well, it is a pretty good start on our part.

I managed to catch the first half of the game and Qatar lacked any bite in truth, while the Singaporeans had enough poise and composure to play a pretty evenly-balanced game.

Now if the results roll our way in the next two games, we might actually find ourselves in the round of 16. Quite an impressive result I would say. All we need is a draw against Kuwait (beatign them is a tall order) and a win against India, and then hope that either Kuwait or Qatar win that head-to-head, and we've got second place!

Go lions!

Resilience

Manchester United thought us all a little lesson on resilience tonight.

Sometimes people expect the highest standards even when you're sick.

Sometimes people simply expect you to win just by turning up.

Sometimes people take it that three points are in the bag just playing at home.

Sometimes people don't except excuses or poor showings because you are who you are.

And when you are Manchester United, everyone simply expects the best. Even with half the first team sick with a virus, the manager himself is sick, there're no midfielders that even Owen Hargreaves has to play(only to pull his hamstring). John O'shea has to go midfield, Bebe has to play as a substitute after just 5 minutes, Obertan gets a full game, Fletcher plays with a rolled ankle, Vidic plays with the virus, and just about everyone else is recovering from the virus.

People still expect the best.

That's why last night's win was especially sweet. To win when you don't play good enough is something not every fan can savour. To still keep trying when the chips are down even when standards get frustrating. To persevere when people are walking out of Old Trafford thinking its another draw and we played shite. That is the true mark of champions and class. Remember, form is temporary, class is permanent. And I'm happy that this so called B team can get it's run of games and experience, especially young guns like Hernandez, Obertan and Bebe. I for one would like to see them as the new generation of stars than for SAF to just splash cash on an established superstar.

Sometimes people throw all sorts of things at us to deny our right for success. More people are happy to slam us down and destroy the things that we work for just so that we cannot achieve what they cannot achieve. But there is no point getting into immature squabbles and retaliations. Life is short, so might as well make the most of the energy in you to pick yourself up, dust your shoulders, learn from the mistakes and keep trying again? Only then can we, achieve respect and success in our lives, with our heads held high.

Another simple page taken off the Man U book.

I'll take a win like that any day. Park Ji Sung is da man! 2-1 win over Wolves with Park scoring in extra time of both halves :)

It's getting way too crowded here man.

This place should be it's own constituency. Screw Punggol and screw Pasir Ris.

Wonder who I'd vote for this time?

Shock of the FA Cup so far, they beat Rochdale in the first time out!

Something to slightly savour :)

Everything With Fries

Just back from a good lunch at its Joo Chiat outlet.

This is a perky little outlet in Joo Chiat near Katong Mall. Apparently its owned by the same owners of Joo Joo and Awfully Chocolate. Settings are very simple and charming.

I had the One Egg soup to start off, and that was really yummy with a crusty egg topped on cream soup. Then the Lamb Burger (I'm not a gLambert fan by the way) which was delicious and you can choose the fries of any flavour. I got the sour cream and onion flavoured fries.

Topped it off with Vanilla Malt milkshake. Malt because htey use Horlicks. Slurp!

I'm so full now I can't sit properly.

Need...some...sleep...

Go try!!!

Weirdest Goal

Haven't seen anything like this in quite awhile, but Nani scored a really weird goal last night. I think he thought he could get a penalty by going down in the box and reached his hand to grab the ball. But the referee didn't blow and Gomez just looked like he thought it was an automatic free kick but no whistle was blown, so Nani just kick it into the empty net! Ha! Who cares though, a goal's a goal and I'll take the win anytime.

A 2-0 win over Tottenham at Old Trafford is something we might've grown accustomed to, but they really looked quite lively last night and could've gotten something out of the game.

Berbatov wasn't in very good form but it's good to see Park Ji Sung regaining form again so at least our wings have more bite once more.

And yes, we keep a clean sheet which is more than what most of us can ask for this season,

Long may this run continue.

Oh, and we're STILL unbeaten in all competitions this season :)

SGX ASX Merger

This has been all over the business news the last few days.

My simple, humble thoughts are as follows:

SGX is borrowing a hefty lot to make this bid ($4.9b) and paying a huge premium for a company that will lose it's monopoly next year.

But then without such an overvalued bid, we're going to see Australians burning the Singapore flag and using people power to stop the deal from going through. Granted, there's some noise right now but it's not as bad as if we made a lower bid and claim it to be overpaying.

Singaporean companies overpay for everything anyway don't we? It's the only way to seal a deal in the cleanest and least corrupted of fashions.

This is one up for all Singaporeans. Take that, you Aussie xenophobics!

Magnus Bocker doesn't normally announce deals without knowing the odds. And this time he still has probably calculated right. ASX wants this, the Aussie government (fragile as it may be) seems to be in support, and local protests are quite limited for now. Let's see how it pans out.

All in all not good if you're an SGX shareholder right now though, because SGX shares are headed for dilution if the deal goes through.

Yet I'm still feeling proud that we're the ones buying over them and not vice versa.

First Away Win

Stoke City 1 Manchester United 2

Got to give it to our newest baby-faced assassin, Javier Hernandez!

Once again like all of this season, we've let leads slip away. But heck, as long as we always score more, we still win right? Plus Stoke's goal was quite a stunner by Tuncay Sanli, so it wasn't because of an individual error.

If every match were this heart-stopping, I wouldn't mind as long as we always won!

Chicharito go!

And I wonder if anyone's noticed that we're still unbeaten in the league?

Korean GP 2010

What a race!

Fernando Alonso wins the inaugural Korean Grand Prix with Lewis Hamilton coming in second followed by Felipe Massa.

Both Red Bulls retired (DNF) for the first time this season.

Now the title race is really wide open!

Of note during the race is that 9 drivers retired! Wow, that must be some sort of season high.

Stoke City

That being said, I wonder if we'll win at Stoke tonight though.

I'm hoping for another Berbatov hat trick :)

Sir Alex Ferguson Masterstroke II

As if locking up Wayne Rooney in the confines of the United camp wasn't enough, SAF has also played the Glazers into his hand as he managed to use Rooney as a bargaining chip as well.

Now he gets an extra war chest of between £50-£100mio of transfer fees to strengthen the current squad. Plus whatever money he makes of selling any existing players.

Simply fantastic.

Sure, alot of people are going to drag in their grouses about the Glazers weeding money off the club, but at some point I guess we all have to admit that the club isn't in as dire a situation Liverpool was in a month ago, and even though the debt is a monster sum, it is adequately financed.

Just take it as akin to Singaporeans buying a second piece of property and using rental from that exact property to supplement the instalment payments. As much as I hate to say it, it is a prudent piece of wealth enhancement technique. As long as the piece of property doesn't skydive in value and is suitably maintained, there will be no problems maintaining healthy rental and financing it in the future. The fans just happen to be the ones renting the property and are complaining that the prices are soaring. But then when a piece of property's value goes up, isn't rental expected to go up as well? Hmm.

Ok I can't believe I'm justifying the Glazers' actions here.

Anyway.

And Manchester United is a good piece of property with very very steady revenue streams. So those debt issues really aren't as bad as the tabloids make it out to be. What's more, being one of the most popular clubs in the world, there seems to be no shortage of interested buyers in the club. Demand can only continue to grow with it's popularity and stature. Even if the Red Knights previously could amass £1.5b to buy over the club, they'd still be taking a large portion of that on loan. Which will mean the same debt issues wouldn't it?

Hmm.

Back to Ferguson. This guy is sheer genius in a red tie. I wonder how we'll cope when he retires one day. Hopefully by then we will have won another 2 more Champions League trophies and many more league crowns.

Saturday, October 23, 2010

Sir Alex Ferguson Masterstroke

In the end, it was probably one of the best outcomes even though Man U fans are still seething with anger. Tying Wayne Rooney down to a new five year contract at £180,000/week appears like a weird decision but let me explain.

Rooney has a £5mio buyout clause in his previous contract which allowed him to pay just that and be free to go to another team. That leaves Man U with next to nothing in investment returns after six years with the boy if they just let him up and go.

Somehow, SAF managed to convince him that bailing out of Man U now wasn't a good option. Particularly since it probably isn't worth the mountain of hate he would receive from fans if he remained in England. Nor was Rooney certain that any club would pay the £200,000/week or more the greedy bugger was asking for. Sure there was Chelsea and Man City who might have been able to shell out those figures, but he'd have a mountain of pressure on his shoulders and less certainty to be the star of those star studded teams. So how about a compromise?

Brilliant.

Now with the contract signed and dusted, Rooney has two choices.

1)Play like crap and suck until the end of the season, thereby SAF giving him less and less playing time, and then he gets sold for £40mio or something to the highest bidder where Man U fans would long be happy to see him go. Or.

2)Regain his crazy form last season and win a small portion of fans hearts, then still get sold in the summer for maybe £50mio, and no one will fault Fergie still.

Either way, it costs the club less than £10mio to keep him here and we still get return on investment.

Winner.

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Wayne Rooney II

So it's a lack ambition? As much as I detest the Glazer's reign, pilfering club profits to pay off debt, this is one really lame excuse from that boy. But then it's too brutal to tell the truth isn't it? Especially when it's really about the money. And how much more can he earn and how long?

I really hope he meets his spectacular fall from grace and Man U goes on the win even more trophies without this guy.

Life might be better without him after all.

Don't want to ever see him in United colours again.

Pui!

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Wayne Rooney

Yup. As a Manchester United fan, all I can say is GO.

Maybe it's the perceived lack of ambition in the club, maybe it's the £250,000 a week he thinks he deserves, maybe it's Fergie, maybe it's the Glazers. Heck, maybe it's Berbatov! Well whatever it is, just go.

No one player or staff is bigger than the club. But I do hope he regrets leaving.

I'm probably more concerned about when Fergie decides that enough's enough and calls time on his glorious career.

Whether Fergie's last press conference was staged or genuine, I'm on his side on this. The reason why Manchester United is so loved is because it was built upon the foundations of tradition, loyalty and cohesiveness.

You've got my support, Sir Alex!

What What What

So now that the Liverpool saga is over, the attention has shifted to us?!

There's too much news about Wayne Rooney already!

Will Rooney leave? Personally, I don't really care. If we have a good team with a tighter and meaner defence, a killer spirit, then who cares?

With or without Rooney I think we can still do a pretty good job of winning something.

As long as we don't keep letting our goals slip away.

Sigh.

Everton 2 Liverpool 0

For all you know, Peter Lim's failed takeover bid might actually be a blessing in disguise. If Liverpool is relegated this season, the biggest losers would be NESV after all.

After this weekend's loss, they lie in 19th place in the table.

The Swamp

My fish tank aka The Swamp, is almost a direct replica of Pierce reservoir. Particularly the soiled sediments and dirt on the bed.

And now the filter has broken down. Not like it's gonna make a huge difference.

Mind you my tank is a 4ft living proof of an ecosystem that requires minimal maintenance. Water doesn't get changed, it gets added every 3-4 weeks or so, when it has evaporated below my Absolut gauge (you've got to see it to understand). And so far only the fittest living things have survived, most of which were caught in Pierce themselves.

And yes, there're still tons of living things inside, awaiting the keenest eyes to spot them.

There's an SAE (Siamese Algae Eater) which most people have no problems spotting, and another Algae Eater which is regularly hiding in one of the brick holes.

There're also three snakefishes, one zebra-striped and another two plain black ones, all of which are the hardest to spot especially in the day. They normally burrow into the sand or hide beneath the rocks. I once thought they had died, only to find them chilling out in the open late one night.

There's obviously a whole bunch of hydrillas, all spawning from a small little clump I had brought back from the reservoir a long time back. I've tried alot of plants previously but the hydrillas are the hardiest of them all. All they need is the sunlight from the balcony.

There's a mini Malayan snail infestation going on. They're the most common buggers you see in the reservoir. I brought a few back and before I knew it, they were spawning far faster than rabbits. Horny bastards.

Lastly is a trio of African Zebra snails who help clean up the hardiest algae and keeps the glass tank clean from any mega algae infestation.

See? Not hard to keep a neat little tank for viewing pleasure for 3 years and counting right? All you need are the right living things to do the right set of jobs.

Time for another trip to Pierce reservoir.

Another Draw

Another draw.

Another two-goal lead squandered.

Another bunch of individual errors.

Dunno how much more we're gonna take man. Our defense is horrendous. I think this Is going to be one very long season for me as a fan. Sigh. Luckily I've got other more important things to occupy my mind with, else I would be feeling really down.

On a positive note:

Nani is in spectacular form.

Berbatov is in spectacular form.

Hernandez has shown he's an able Rooney replacement.

Our strike force is scary.

Ferdinand is back.

Anderson is back.

Hopefully we sell Michael Owen in January and bring in a good midfielder to replace Scholesy.

NESV

So New England Sports Venture or NESV as they are better known, have finally concluded their purchase of Liverpool. And my interest is already starting to wane. Yawn.

I wonder which club Peter Lim is eyeing to buy next?

By the way, USD and AUD have hit parity. Can I say I told you so?

SGD will be next. I said it here first.

Peter Lim & Liverpool

So it has been revealed that Peter Lim is the Asian bidder who came in number 2 to NESV of buying out Liverpool FC. With estimated networth at $1B, a $300mio investment (albeit a bad one) shouldn't trouble him too much. I already can picture LFC jerseys with the Wilmar logo instead of the Stanchart one. Haha. Funny.

I dunno whether to be proud or disappointed.

On one hand its great to have a Singaporean presence showing our financial strength (no need to borrow to finance the deal somemore!), but then its LFC (pui!). If only it were Man U then I'd really be overjoyed. Oh well, may the Singaporean flag fly high.

And also, buying EPL clubs have much more often than not, proved to be loss-making ventures. The only good out of such a purchase is the branding and popularity it will bring. Not to mention that Peter Lim has never been known as a Liverpool fan. More of a pseudo Man U fan given the publicity he's had locally. So likely he just thinks that a successful bid  for the club is a good piece of investment work.

In any case, I will quietly be prouder than dismayed if the takeover does indeed succeed.

On another note, I strongly suspect that the rich guy who lost $100mio in our casino a couple of days back was him too. :P

Heat

Is it me, or is the weather getting warmer over the last couple of days?

Must be all that talk about currency wars. The new lingo for the next couple of weeks.

Beginning Of The Currency Wars

So it's pretty obvious that for all the US rhetoric pressing China to devalue the CNY, they themselves have succumbed to their own form of devaluation. By simply flushing the system wih even more USD while calling for a simultaneous rise in CNY does come across as hypocritical, but I choose to see it as the next best alternative since China doesn't want to budge. And rightly so too, since appreciation too quickly will almost surely halt China's growth. It will still be a gradual process if left to their own means.

So with the USD depreciating by the day, the EUR and JPY are suffering from too high a valuation. with the BOJ intervening in September and the free markets not taking heed (JPY was intervened at 83 and currently languishing below 82), it will surely spell another round of intervention shortly. Europe is also starting to talk about intervening, and it's more a question of when and not if now.

That surely leaves us wih a very strong SGD which we could yet suffer for if the MAS doesn't do anything about it. But you surely cannot discount the possibility of SGD and USD parity. You know how much richer Singaporeans will be if that really happens?

Strongest currency to bank on now is the AUD. Already almost at parity with the USD, this currency is closestly linked with Gold prices. And what better asset class to hold onto when the world's major currencies are crumbling?

That's right.

FML

I swear there's a generation gap between the younglings and myself these days. The kind of vocabulary used are completely different and incomprehensible.

Delhi Commonwealth Games

Ok, it looks better than all the reports in the past few weeks suggest.

Hopefully it'll be a smooth games.

At least the opening ceremony looks pretty good to begin with.

Does anyone even bother about the games anyway?

Bet most are staying up because of the Arsenal Chelsea game instead.

Goodbye Mdm Kwa

Mrs Lee Kuan Yew passed away yesterday. Bless her tender heart.

Can't believe Man U drew yet again.

Chicharito

Won it for us at the Mestella. Let's hope he continues his awesome form.

Wonder who Fergie will play up front tonight against Sunderland with so many in-form strikers to choose from. So exciting!

By the way, is anyone monitoring the Delhi Commonwealth Games? Indian wedding indeed!

Valencia

Tonight's match is not gonna be easy. Hope we can get a narrow win. Stand up and be counted Berbatov and Owen!

EURUSD is flying off the charts. Waiting for the right time to enter a short position on that one. Am already long USDJPY hoping for some BOJ intervention round the corner.

Today I bought into a little company called Juken Tech. This one's for the long haul. Hopefully this will be a good investment.

Gold has crossed USD 1,300.

I need some good steak tomorrow. My body doesn't feel quite right and I get tired easily. Time for some exercise soon. Can feel some sickness coming.

Love is something that no amount of money can buy. We all need to appreciate it that little bit more from those who provide it.

F1 Results

Oh yah. Plus podium finish was Alonso, Vettel and Webber respectively.

Xian.

Another Draw

This is our 3rd draw in as many away games. Can't believe the number of goals we're giving out. It's almost like we were a charity. One last minute to Fulham, two last minute to Everton, and now we have to come from behind twice against Bolton.

Like I said before, it's time we replaced Evans. Bring on Smalling and try out also good. Plus while we're at it, we should also replace O'Shea ( I really like him, but...), and Evra with Hash Brown and Fabio or Raphael.

Overhaul the whole defense lah.

It's not like we'd do any worse, right?

F1 Singapore GP 2010

Somehow the festive atmosphere isn't as vibrant as last year's event, but it's still good to see that the event's sold-out.

Maybe because all that noise and smell of burning rubber wears off after awhile(excuse the pun). But I'm only catching it on tv this year, in the comforts of my own home :)

My bets this year are on Hulkenberg, Schumacher, Petrov, Sutil or Barichello to achieve a podium finish, meaning finishing top 3. If any of them do that, or better yet two or all top 3 places go to any of the five drivers, I'll be a rich man :) As on last evening's qualifying night, my best bet was on Barichello who starts the race in 6th place!

Wish me luck!!!

Gold

Gold is almost USD 1,300 now. Wonder how much higher it can go.

I met a hedge fund manager who told me that gold will hit USD 5,000 by 2012. Wonder how right he would be, but from the looks of things, it's not impossible! Take a look at it's chart if you're free one day. It's trajectory is crazy!

Then again if everyone is shouting for gold to reach new highs every single day, isn't it time to sell?

Hmmm.

Sunset Grill And Pub Revisited

So the last time I went to Sunset Grill to have their fiery chicken wings, I didn't survive level 3.

This time around, I not only survived levels 1 and 3, but also level 5, and level 10!!! The wonders of having friends who are as scared but challenge each other to leap past such psychological boundaries.

By level 5 my tongue was almost numb already. Level 10 was really stretching it another stage because just kissing the wing (yes we did), my lips felt like 10,000 knives stabbing at them.

In the end I whoofed the whole level 10 chicken wing down really quickly. Almost immediately afterthat, my face turned blue, and my mouth just stung so bad. I broke out in sweat and tears and couldn't stop crying. That was how bad it was. Took me about 20 mins to cool down. Cui.

Plus this morning I had stomachache :(

Was fun though!

My 3 Month Break

Last night concluded 4 nights of consecutive drinking and hard partying. We went to Dragonfly followed by Velvet. Its been such a long time since I last went there. Still don't really like the place, but the company was good and we tried a new plum vodka drink which was really cool!

Anyway that will hopefully be the last of my hardcore partying for the next 3 months at least when baby joins our family! Gotta start making more time for family liaoz! Can't wait!

Just retwisted my knee just now at soccer. Xianz. Think I should be out of the game for awhile at least.

My Date With Francis Flynn

Had the priviledge of spending half a day being coached by him on decision making and organizational behaviour. This is one very interesting and intriguing man. Totally enjoyed his simple lecture. There is much to take away from him and his little stint in Singapore.

Read more about Prof Francis Flynn here.

Oh, I still haven't replaced my phone yet. Decided to buy a lousy brick Blackberry from the office for $30.

Man U drew with Fulham last night and it felt really sucky even till now because we were leading 2-1, gained a penalty, only to see Nani's effort saved in the 86th min and then Fulham scored in the dying minutes to tie the match. Crap shite.

YOG Hockey - Singapore Vs Belgium

We went to the stadium after work only to be told that tickets were sold out! I was SO upset. Wanted to take pictures of the empty stadium and send it to Stomp.sg! So I fumed all the way to Mcdonalds for dinner with wifey.

After dinner, we decided to give it one more try. And lo'n'behold, the encik ticket guy was really nice and told us to wait, he try to get us in for free. So nice!!!

So we got in for free! There weren't that many people, like maybe 800 people at best, so obviously they could do with one damn loud Singaporean supporter! And I think I was the only one shouting for Singapore! Shout until throat sore lor!

In the end Singapore lost 1-7. I think we tired at the end. We let in 3 goals in the final 5 mins. But still, against a pretty good opponent, our boys did put in good effort lah.

We had a great time!!! Whooot!!

Silver Lining

Remember I posted about stumbling into Mediacorp's office once only to stumble on Ris Low filming for some silly show? That silly show is coming! I don't see Ris at all in the trailers so maybe they did away with her?

Revisit that post here.

Will try to make it for the hockey games since there're held in Sengkang stadium.

NDP 2004 Theme Song - Home

I was going to post my all time favourite, which was last year's 'What Do You See' by Electrico but I realised I've posted that before. So I'm posting my 2nd all time best. Haha. Don't even remember hearing a new one this year.

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Its Singapore's birthday today! And we're going over to my mum's to watch the NDP. Quite excited about watching this year's mobile column (its quite dua zhong because it happens only once every 5 years or so). Oh and we saw the fireworks two weeks ago during one of the previews.

Man U won the Charity Shield by defeating Chelsea 3-1 last night. Quite glad that 'the chicharito', Javier Hernandez scored , abeit in quite a funny way. Berbatov squared the ball to him in the box and he kicked the ball so awkwardly that it smashed his face and went into the goal! Haha, funny but we'll take it any day. I have high hopes that we will do pretty well this season. Plus the new jersey looks quite nice.

Came back from Mission Hills yesterday. Shot a 109 on Els course and 112 on the Olazabal course. Not too bad, but its time to improve my tee offs. Enough of teeing off with a 3 wood. And add my 9 iron to the bag.

Getting ready for baby soon! Time to fix up his cot and cupboard!

Jump Shots In Taupo!

There was nothing much to do in Lake Taupo. Hence.

Back From The Land Of The Long White Cloud

Back from New Zealand. Was there for 12 days reservist training. All in all was a very good trip.

We were based in Waiouru camp, about 400km south of Auckland in the North Island. Was very cold, daily temperature hovered between 1deg and 6degs. Everywhere we go could see our own breath.

The first few days of the exercise was quite xiong but then once the games began it got much better. We had pretty good bunks and amenities too. Think the New Zealanders really tried to take care of us as best they could. We had a nice bed, comforter, heater had no problems. Only issue was our room key which spoilt and there was no replacement, meaning we literally left our room unlocked for almost 8 days while in camp!

We even went to Lake Taupo for a Sunday day off even though there was hardly anything to do there.

We had alot of free time to do alot of things like reading books, writing a short journal, and catching up with each other's lives. I shared a bunk with Richard, Joshua and Ben, all great roommates (no snorers). Managed to cover The Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell and Paths of Glory by Jeffrey Archer.

Oh, and I spent my 31st birthday in camp as well. How sad right? But then also nice of the brigade to celebrate the birthdays of the July babies (there were only 3 of us) during on r&r dinner on the last day of the trip lah.

I think we were quite lucky to be given the opportunity to go in the first place given that we were reservists, but we made the most of it and made a very good impression with the Kiwis. So good on everyone. And that we spent alot of time in the resident pub of the camp, the Garrison Bar, for alot of nights meant that we made alot of friends there :) Beers were so cheap they were at $2.50 a bottle!

The one thing I really couldn't stand was the constant potato diet! Everyday I ate potatoes! I mean like it, but to have it every single day for every meal? And the sausages were a constant for every meal too aiyoh.

In Auckland we all had a nice dinner, then most of us crammed into a naughty strip bar followed by the casino (lost $200). How's that for a fun itinary.

Its funny that for 3 weeks a year we meet up and even though its sucha short period of interaction, still it feels as though some of us have known each other for ages. Maybe that is exactly what we want to defend in Singapore?

Ok getting ready to go back for work on Monday liaoz. There's golf tomorrow!

Inception

Brilliant movie. Will probably watch it once more.

My final theory for the movie end after reading some spoiler sites is as such: The ending isn't reality as Cobb's totem was still spinning infinitely. Cobb died in a level 4 dream and Saito died in a level 3 dream (of his injuries) hence without a kick, they are stuck in limbo, where Cobb finds Saito after so long (the replayed scene similar to the start of the movie). They both then create level 5 where Cobb finds his happy ending where he gets to see the faces of his children.

I would like to know what happens in reality where Cobb and Saito fail to wake up. Would that even be real in the first place? Haiz.

End of story.

Now I need an extraction job done...

For The Happiness Of All, One Must Fall

I learnt this phrase during my first week of in-camp last week.

There's alot of truth in the fact that usually one person has to sacrifice in order for the rest in the group to have things easy or easier. And the same applies in our civilian lives too. If I don't help to get something done properly, then everyone might suffer. In civilised group dynamics, this self-sacrificial spirit actually helps cohesion and togetherness.

But in the army, it's been twisted towards meaning the sacrifice of one scapegoat. One must take the blame. One must die. One must carry the shitbag. Haha. Its definitely more hilarious than it sounds! It's become a sabo-someone-else-or-get-saboed.

Off to New Zealand tomorrow where it is 4 deg in the mornings!

Flying To The Moon

So Spain won the world cup.

Flying off to New Zealand on Sunday. Will be there for 2 weeks on a bilateral exercise. Hope it won't be too boring over there.

Just watched Despicable Me. Pretty nice and cute animations though the storyline's a little weak imho.

Oh and did I mention that I've been nominated as one of my unit's NSmen of the year?

Holland Or Spain?

The World Cup finals tonight. My money goes to the Dutch. Lets hope they make me some money.

Was at Tering Bay, Batam yesterday for Texas scramble golf. 3 flights of golfers - Lasse/Nick/Sophia, Eugene/Maple/Terence, myself/Youlong/Edmund. Even though I thought we played quite well, we still ended up losing by one stroke. Final scores, 82, 88, 89 (us). It was a more even team split than we thought nonetheless.

Reservist tomorrow. Gotta be at Jurong Camp tomorrow. Overnght. Xianz.

ParentCraft lesson today went through breast-feeding.

PAMmers lunch today courtesy of Tony at Paulaners. Funny that as a manager, when you spend time with the account managers, the topics and conversations range from babies, family to property. When you spend time with the sales guys, the topics and conversations range from alcohol, partying to investments. What a funny diversification. No surprises about which one makes me feel younger though.

:)

Germany 4 Argentina 0

Who would have thought. And the score isn't even flattering for Germany. They really could've scored several more. Argentina was just shite. Messi was shite. Maradona was already planning on how to look sad, and no one played defence. Plus I wasted money on them. Sigh.

A scoreline so embarassing that I had to blog about it.

Now for the last semi-final spot between Spain and Paraguay.

Feeling A Little Sniffy

Played basketball for the first time in a long long time with a couple of colleagues yesterday evening. Was fun. But ended up bathing late and sleeping in the aircon room (because I was feeling so warm) with wet hair. Now having a 'falling sick' feeling which is kinda crappy. Later going for futsal at The Cage so hopefully that can perk me up abit.

Got bruises on my arms from the battle last night!

Japan's out as well! Lost on penalties to Paraguay. Boo....

Its been a tough quarter for everyone, but at least we all worked our asses off and came home with great-looking figures. So hopefully we get abit more money soon. I need to save up more money!

Ever Wondered Why Everyone Shits In The Morning At Work?

Maybe its a habit, or maybe breakfast in town is always too oily. It seems like this has been going on for the longest time. Each time you try to use the cubicles, they're locked till 11+am.

So kua zhang meh? Its not like we have that many people on our floor even. Haha.

And when you try going to a lower floor it is just the same. No empty cubicle for you, amigo.

Sigh.

England are out of the World Cup. South Korea's out. Left with Japan tonight otherwise I will have no more teams to support. Hope they beat Paraguay.

Round Of 16

The round of 16 is finally here at the World Cup and that's when the football action really starts. I'm definitely hoping for more than a few surprises given what we've seen in the early rounds.

In fact some of the relatively more obscure teams like USA, Paraguay and South Korea may go quite far if they get a proper run going and things go their way. Also hoping Japan might spring a surprise or two just for Asian pride.

Not many traditional powerhouses advancing this year given what a joke France and Italy (bottom of the easiest group?!) have been. Germany face England so they will cancel each other out. We're only left with Argentina, Brazil, Spain and Holland in the round as traditional powerhouses. South American teams doing really well this year probably because of the similar climate and altitude between South Africa and the lower continent. In fact all teams from this continent advanced to the next round. Wow. Go Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay!

Japan and South Korea fly the flag for Asia. I'm really happy with that given that I expected more out of Australia  and thought they'd be the only ones making it out of the group stages. Both north Asian teams have done extremely well playing good football and advancing. Was watching the 2.30am match between Japan and Denmark at Peppermint Park the night before and by golly what a good game it was for Japan. Wearing my Nakamura jersey and supporting Japan together with all my Japanese colleagues (amongst other Japanese strangers!). *clap clap clap* Nippon! The Danish colleagues and most of the other Danes left the game by halftime! So I am hoping Japan and South Korea can spring a surprise in this round and advance even further.

So far Argentina looks to be most capable of winning the World Cup given their superstars and surprising connection and collection as a team after their qualifying fiasco (they only secured qualification in WC2010 in the last match with a goal at the last minute!). Lionel Messi is really putting on a fantastic show of quality football inspite of the defensiveness of other opponents when they play against the Argentines. Speaking of which, I think I'll place some money on Argentina winning the World Cup in a moment.

Brazil, Portugal, Spain and Holland look like the ones who can cut it, but their current form isn't very fantastic. Brazil is playing more brute than beautiful, Spain is playing like Arsenal, Portugal has quality but not as much experience, Holland are the perennial number 2s.

So there you have it, a quick round up.

Should be quite an exciting weekend (as much as I'm feeling quite blah that I'm missing my company's Summer Party!. Sobz) .

MBGC

Beautiful isn't it?

Played two rounds at Marina Bay Golf Course over the last few weekends.

First time I played there I beat Eugene 107 - 116.

Second time he won 113 - 102.

That place has got really awesome views man. Too bad the 2nd time we played it poured.

Was fun nonetheless.

Very beautiful views of the CBD area.

Went for BodyCombat at the gym earlier. My regular Monday class. Sweated bucket loads. Almost slipped over my own pools of sweat.

Watched A-Team. Not as good as I expected.

World Cup Fever

Suffering from World Cup fever. The world cup is from the 11th June till the 11th July this year and I've been catching most of the action so far. Games in South Africa are at 7.30pm, 10pm and 2.30am local time so it is possible to catch a few good games unlike Germany 2006.

I even bought the Panini sticker album as well. If anyone's got extras, can swap with me :)

Worst yet is the betting. I've been betting (with Singapore Pools of course) on just about every match in all sorts of combinations so far. Will announcce my P/L at the end of the world cup.

Last night's Brazil V North Korea game ended up 2-1. I was hoping for a whitewash that didn't happen. Since it was a 2.30am match, I didn't foresee myself watching it. And yet perhaps due to my constant thinking about the match since I had some huge bets on a big Brazilian win, my biological clock spontaneously woke me up at 2.40am, 3.15am, 4.30am and 5.50am. I remember these timings because each time I woke up I'd check the scores on my Blackberry. I even had a weird dream that Brazil won 7-2!

Sigh. Damn tired now.

Suffering from the World Cup fever.

White Collar Boxing

Just attended the most atas boxing event. Held at Ritz Carlton, this white collar boxing private event is so atas that its a black tie event. and 70% of attendees were ang mohs.

And I was seating at those $550 ring-side seats only because we were a main sponsor of the event.

Felt so out of place.

But at least the beer and wine models were smokin' hot! And the amateurish fights were pretty exciting too.

:)

The World Cup has started and I've put in so much money into bets! South Korea beat Greece 2-0! Whooot! Happy! This will probably go down as my heaviest betting World Cup ever!

Slower

Dunno why but my body just can't do the things it used to do anymore. Blame it on the alcohol, blame it on the age. Whatever. I'm getting slower and weaker by the day.

Gone are the days when I can dance past defenders.

Sigh.

Tokyo Pix Are Up

Finally got down to posting the pictures on the blog. But since I'm still lazy, I've selected only my top ten pix. Haha.
So here's the first one. The jap look! Considering that I only brought 3 pairs of boxers and nothing else to wear for this trip, I obviously had additional incentive to be shopping! Only the Polo Ralph jacket wasn't bought in Tokyo. Everything else is from UniQlo except for the cap which is from Gap. Don't I look local?

This is our humble apartment on the first floor of a 4-storey building. We managed to get this place for cheap and its situated in a pretty cosy and safe neighbourhood called Nakano, which happens to be one subway station away from Shinjuku. Its kinda small and cramped but that's how all Japanese living quarters are. The good thing is that they've everything you need in a normal house. Talk about compact living.

As you can see, I was born to win on the UFO machine. I played so much that wifey had to restrict the amount of money I used to play. And still I got so many little toys :) What a talent I have!

Well we can't ignore the food when in Tokyo, and we had it all. Ramen, udon, curry rice, pepper lunch, sushi, grilled chicken, pork charshu, KFC, Mcdonalds, cold soba, takopachi etc. This was our first Ramen meal in Nakano at a little joint in the shopping arcade. Really good stuff. The tamago was to-die-for. Slurp!

Downtown Tokyo taken from the World Trade Center Observatory. Its quite expensive up there and there're no gift shops or cafes at all so all you can do is view the 360 degree view of Tokyo. Quite nice, but expensive. Plus we hadn't even had our breakfast yet that day. I have an almost identical picture of this on my Blackberry and that one was taken professionally.

Dinner with staff from our Japanese office. From left, thats Yuko, Wataru and Peder (who's also visiting from CPH). This restaurant was super ulu. I don't think any tourist could've found it, but it served up one of the best meals of our trip. Very small and cosy, we had an exclusive 5 course Japanese dinner with the chatty owner entertaining us along the way. Reminds me of Tatsuya in Singapore. There was this weird uncle sitting beside wifey  who kept glancing at us till his dinner ended and then he told us what a sweet young couple we were. Awww.....

Hakone. We took a day trip there and did the recommended round trip. A nice and serene getaway on the edge of central Tokyo. As you can see it was a cloudy day, so we couldn't see Mt Fuji no matter how hard I tried to imagine. Sad :(

So we finally made it to the famous Tsukiji fish market. It was HUGE! There was the auctioning section, which was the size of one Exp hall. Then the wet market section which is the size of four soccer fields. And then the commercial section with the sushi bars and eateries. We had to wake up at 4am in the morning just to catch all this action. Last time I was here the area was a dead town by 1pm. The above is the auctioning of the large-ass Tuna fish. You can see the auction table in the upper centre of the picture. Shortly after taking this picture we were asked to leave by a security officer because we were in a no-tourist zone. Haha.

Shopping in Shibuya and Harajuku. We also went to Ginza, Shinjuku, Akihabara to shop. I used to think Singapore was crowded but Tokyo is crazy packed with people! Can't believe how crowded the city is. Something is wrong when the subway evening rush hour starts from 4.30pm till 12.30am! WTF?! Still I've gotta say that there is far more shopping variety in Tokyo than anywhere else in the world I've seen. Different things at different places all the time.

Lastly, we also went to Ueno to see the museums and parks there. Very nice and the buildings are very old and charming. Ended up shopping in Ueno as well. It is definitely one of the more touristy areas in Tokyo and most of the shop people speak a smatter of English. In contrast, the workers at the eateries in Nakano hardly spoke a word of it since there were hardly any tourists there.

And so, that was our 6 day Tokyo trip in 10 segments. All in all was really fun to the max. And we got to live like the Japanese do instead of tourists.Took 572 pictures in total on my Canon Ixus but I'm obviously not gonna post them all. I already had quite a few enquiries about the apartment we stayed in. If you wanna find out more, drop me an email :)

Too Lazy Still

Ok, so I've been busy.

Went to work yesterday not realising that I had actually applied for leave. Sigh.

Aching from soccer just now.

MBS Casino

Went to the Marina Bay Sands casino last Wednesday after a few drinks.

We actually walked from office all the way over there. Think its a good time to go on a weekday because its less crowded. Its huge and very nice! Clean and good...similar to the Venetian in Macau.

Ended up winning a little even after paying the $100 entrance fee! :)

'Rents just went to Egypt! So shiok.

Will be heading to Tokyo with the wifey next week! Whoooooooot! Just bought the latest Canon Ixus 130 ($499) just for the trip. 14.1megapixels! Wahseh...

Crowded Trains

Blogging on the train now. With the opening of the Circle Line, the North East Line has gotten so much more crowded.

Sometimes I wonder whether Singapore is getting too crowded. To the point where even extreme suburbia like Sengkang is filling up trains at the start of the NEL. Sigh.

There're more expats living here too. Cost of living must be rising tremendously.

Played golf over the weekend at Palm Springs Batam. Our team made up of Maple, Terence, Nick and myself shot a 12-over 84. Narrowly lost to the other team of Eugene, Youlong, Arnold and Tony, who scored an 82. Was a really fun and easy course.

My arms are aching from Body Combat last evening. Its the 3rd week in a row I've attended the class. That ought to be a record.

And then today I got a basketball game somemore.

Tired.

JP Morgan Corporate Challenge

Clocked 32:03 for the 5.6km run. Think I should be able to improve on this next year.

That places me at 1,110 out of 11,753 runners on Thursday evening.

Aching all over now haha.

Global Warming Is Killing Us

I can't even stand under the sun anymore without breaking into sweat.

Sigh.

And I'm still praying that Manchester United will still win the league somehow!

View From The Top

Its amazing to think I've been in the same office for three and a half years now. Never really appreciated the view from up here until recently. The views are magnificent. You can see most of the Singapore CBD area on a clear day.

On a usual evening, the view is very soothing from my Front Office side.

On a rainy day, we're up amongst the clouds.

And on a sunny day, things can't get any clearer than this, can it?

Beautiful eh?

Wonder how long more I'll be here?

Home On A Friday

How rare is that?

Wifey is sleeping early because she needs to rest.

The long two weeks of consecutive work is taking its toll. Really looking forward to soccer tomorrow. Hope it doesn't rain. Next week will be an exercise week, with Body Combat on Monday and the JP Morgan run on Thursday. Should be fun.

Spent the last few weeks interviewing alot of candidates. Job market is certainly picking up.

Sigh.

Looking forward to Tokyo in 3 weeks!

Who wants to visit the Shanghai World Expo?

Days Of Days

This is my10th consecutive day of work, staying past 8pm for at least 5 of them. Really tired. Two more days to the weekend.

Can't wait.

So will Liverpool field a weaker team against Chelsea so that Man U will not win the league? Highly likely.

Can't wait for Tokyo tour end of next month.

Gosh I need a break.

Cloudy Ash

Went to the gym for the 2nd time in 2 weeks! That's quite a record. The Body Combat class was really tiring. Then I finally got a haircut at a small little barbershop. Think it looks pretty nice now :)

Bangkok business trip got canned at the eleventh hour :( Darn. Was hoping to go despite all the trouble there. Would've been fun to see the Red Shirts.

That giant ash cloud halting flights all over Europe sure is gonna add a cloudy stain to the markets. Was hoping the markets would drop further but they're more resilient than I thought.

Then the suing of Goldman Sachs made it even more certain that all hell would break loose. But no, still everything looks fine and dandy.

I wonder how long more before the big runroad?

Anyway I watched Manchester United beat City in the local derby on Saturday in the comforts of home. Email me if you'd like to know how I did it. Was so happy when Scholesy turned up at the last minute to score that sweet header. Glad we're still in the title race. Hopefully we'll win all our games and Chelsea will lose one or more of them.

Oh and last weekend we caught How To Train A Dragon with my siblings. Awesome show. You guys should go catch it!

Ris Low Begone!

Was at MediaCorp's AMK office recently to collect my Speedo watch for my winning letter to 8days(finally!).

Who would have thought that I would stumble on a filming crew right at the reception. They were filming a new English series called Silver Linings. Then I noticed the crew kept refering to this tall (and ugly) girl as Ris and then I realised who that was. Dammit, the more you hate them the more your paths will cross - Murphy's Law. And by golly was she irritating or what. For starters she cannot act for shite, more on that later. And she was speaking in her usual irritating I-cannot-speak-properly-but-people-love-me-right type of lynch-deserving voice. Buay tahan.

The bad acting was so bad, that I didn't even need to tell you it was bad. The scene seemed like a cameo scene for her and all she had to do was stop an old lady walking past the reception of the office. 9 takes. That's how long I was there for and still when I left they were still doing the same scene. After each take, the director kept faulting Ris (she can't act - which is why her stupdity is not an act, its real!)and telling her how to improve. Even the old lady actress looked forlorn that this show is gonna bomb with Ris in it haha.

I have a 99.9% confidence level that I will not be waiting for this series to air.

Ok enough ranting. The whole comedy (I dunno if that series is a comedy but it didn't look like it) really eased my 20min wait for a silly Speedo watch.

Victory At Bintan Lagoon

Was golfing at Bintan Lagoon last Saturday for the Saxo Texas Scramble. As you can read, we won the event! Hit our best score ever in the short history of the tournament with a 78 (+6) and with our aggregate handicap of -23, our nett score of 55 (-17) was tops! Next closest was a tie at 57 (-15). Won ourselves abit of cash. And this is the second time we've won this tournament. Whooooot!

Was also a very interesting experience because after the first 2 holes, it start to rain cats and dogs. I mean serious downpour flood-type monsoon rain and we were totally drenched! Then 7 holes later, the sun came out and dried our clothes. By the end of the 18 hole, we were only drenched in sweat on top and soaked through our underwears at the bottom. Haha. Was a very fun experience nonetheless. The win obviously made everything seem all fine and dandy :)

Below is us and the coveted nett-score trophy!
