Still don't understand how we can have Sengkang West and Punggol East SMCs when the whole Sengkang East is more properly populated. Sigh what can I say? I only hope someone will challenge the GRC and give the incumbents a run for their money.
Wonder when the GE will be? Late March?

The Middle East
The current contagion spreading throughout the Middle East is getting quite unsettling.
Let's see how much the markets are going to be affected by all this.
It looks like everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to protest and demonstrate for supposed democracy but hey wait a sec. Is that really what the protesters are really trying to achieve? Or are they just trying to oust a government where the opposition has smelled an opportunity to take action?
Look at Egypt for example. It all sounded like the right thing to do supporting democracy and ousting an old dictator (even though Egypt as an economy was considered relatively stable). Now that Mubarak is finally out, the unrest is continuing! The people are now getting unhappy with the interim army government too. Another round of demonstrations again? The real Egyptian protesters must be wondering, what the hell did I just get led into protesting for? For all this to continue until the protesting leaders go into government? How much unrest must there be before everything settles down again? What was the true agenda of the protest leaders?
Over time the protesters will realize the true intentions of many of the protest leaders currently leading the unrest across the Middle East. If you want to do it, do it once and do it right. Even in Tunisia, the interim government is a shadow of the old regime and people are still unhappy.
You really want democracy? Protest, topple and vote immediately. That's how it should be done. Procrastinating only leads to more protesting.
Now the Libyan government wants to bomb the protesters. What a joke. Plus all eyes on Bahrain.
I'm just glad we don't have such a situation in Singapore. Or our neighbors. Yet.
Stability is always under-appreciated.

Budget
Wah, this year's budget give out so much goodies.
Elections should be in May when the payouts have been distributed.
I personally think that this year's budget has been quite well allocated to appease alot of grievances amongst the people.

Racism In Singapore
Must never be condoned or allowed to thrive in our tiny island, regardless of who is the minority or majority.
Of course there is at least a little bit of xenophobia in everyone of us, and we make a joke out of it in private sometimes. But to let it manifest into racially provoking actions is unforgivable and dangerous.
The very fragile fabric of our nation depends on everyone's understanding and tolerance, otherwise we risk thrusting our generation back into the old days of firm division of race and religion.
And what good will that do for our society?
I thought that our society had come a long way as an educated and openminded nation, but sadly I still see alot needs to be done in terms of our racial attitudes and actions.
NS and HDB-living has definitely helped this integration of races in amazing ways. Yet is it enough?
We're all mature adults. Time to show abit of that maturity in our society today.

The Retirement Of Gary Neville
Happy Chinese New Year everyone!
This morning I woke up to read that Gary Neville has finally decided to retire with immediate effect. While we Man U fans knew his time was up with his lousy performances this season, we all cannot take away from the fact that he is up there amongst the United greats, albeit in his own quiet, non-flashy fashion.
Part of Fergie's Fledglings with his brother Phil, David Backside, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs since the early 90s, Gary has had over 600 appearances for the club. At least we all knew his heart was a pure red. And he did more effective shouting than playing football. Haha.
I sure am going to miss him.
My fondest memory of him was in the early 2000s during a match against Arsenal when the teams emerged from the dugout. Patrick Viera gave Neville a talking down to, and suddenly out came Roy Keane who popped out from behind and shot back at Viera and squared off with him. That was totally what I call brothers in arms and looking out for one another. I think that kinda changed Neville as well because ever since, he became very vocal and protective of his teammates. You can still see the clips on Youtube.
Respect.
