How Apathetic Are We

Today I was witness to an argument on the bus. Heck, I was sitting NEXT to one of the guys in fact. And yet I minded my own business no matter how heated the argument got, and played with my phone all the while listening to the back and forth.

It was a full double decker bus at rush hour heading out of the city. A local middle-aged woman was crunching on some chips pretty inconsiderately IMHO. The caucasian man beside me grew restless and told her to stop eating or to get off the bus. It didn't sound rude, but she wasn't going to have any of that and immediately launched into a defensive tirade.

Something about her having gastric so she has to eat. The guy argues back saying she should then get off and eat first. Her crunching of chips was disturbing the calm of the upper deck. Back and forth and no one else stepped in until another caucasian got involved. To my disappointment, it was to defend the old lady.

You should be in a taxi if you can't bear this type of noise on a public bus he said. Hmm. You're not supposed to eat on the bus, came the retort. Back and forth and back and forth.

Finally, the man who started the argument in the first place gave up and decided it wasn't worth quarreling with two vehement haters, one protecting another.

All the whole I sat silently along with the rest of the full bus. I guess everyone was having thoughts related to what just happened. I felt that the guy was right in asking the old lady not to eat so loudly on the bus. Yet my instincts told me to mind my own business. I have enough stuff to deal with in my life than to get involved in a stranger's conflict that I knew nothing of the consequences.

Was I apathetic? I guess I was running an endless myriad of responses in my head in case something happened where a response from me was required, but ultimately none was called upon.

Feeling blah.

Haiz.

Fatherhood - Reflections IV

Mark this date.

It has begun.

Son: Mummy is naughty!
Me: Son, stop saying mummy is naughty.
Son: Mummy is naughty! Mummy is naughty! Mummy is naughty!
Me: Stop! You want to go to the naughty room later?!
Son: *whines* No! You cannot bring me to the naughty room! You call me naughty so I call Mummy naughty! You cannot bring me to the naughty room!
Me: *pause*

It has begun.

At 3yrs 8mths old, my son scored a minor victory for himself.

I dunno whether to be happy, scared or afraid.

Lazy

I'm so lazy that it disgusts me.

Since my ACL tear, I've been hardly able to motivate myself to do any form of exercise at all.

Growing fat.

Growing unfit.

Growing unhealthy.

Humph.

Fatherhood - Reflections III

Continuing from where I last left off.

The wifey recently wrote on her blog:

...the kids also reminded me that I am angry too often when wei attempted to draw dad and mum. The former happy face and the latter angry face. "Why?" I asked... "is it cos mummy is always angry.." they gave their most honest reply. Yes. Kids don't lie.

Can you recall your earliest memory in your life? How old were you at the time?

For me, I was probably around 3 or 4 years old. I remember myself fooling around in my parents' first house. I remember our old wooden tv set, alot of the furniture we used to have, and even some of the toys. I even remember watching maybe my earliest movie on the tv screen, all huddled in my father's lap. It was The Towering Inferno. Damn hell scared the living crap out of me.

What I'm getting at here, is that kids this age are beginning to build impressions. Hence as parents, it is important to constantly remind ourselves to behave properly, in the same manner that we want them to grow up behaving. Using negative words will not only indicate that it is okay to use them on others, or build perceptions of negativity on a person based on those words said by another person, but also may have a detrimental effect on their self-esteem and confidence. Behaving in various manners, will give them an impression of what a person is like, and what type of energy is to be expected from the corresponding behaviour. Hence the wifey and I keep encouraging each other to keep trying to better ourselves in our behaviours in front or the kids.

It is also very important to me to be as significant in their lives as possible. Knowing that I remembered various things from the age of around 4, I know that alot of feelings of surprise, apprehension, fear, happiness, sadness etc, actually lingers from the earliest events that evoked such emotions in them. So I have to try and use the events that we create as they grow, to generate as much of a positive vibe as possible. Hopefully they will turn out to be filled with perseverance, determination, optimism, and open-mindedness. This way, they will have had a happy childhood to get them on their way in the journey of life.

The kids are getting smarter as well. It is so obvious, that it feels me with glee to hear them ask so much questions. I try to answer everything as rationally as I can, in order to help them understand complex things from an early age. I don't even know if they understand a bulk of my explanations, but it feels me with satisfaction that I can give them an answer and they are still asking me for answers. It is likely that one day they will turn to other people, so while I have their fullest attention, I will do my utmost, to the best of my knowledge.

Bless us all.

Sunderland 1 Manchester United 1

Oh well, and so the season ends. Finally.

Already looking forward to next season.

1) A Dead Rubber
Given that we needed Aston Villa to beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane, one could almost assume that the 7th placing was a given unless a miracle happened. So when Spurs went up 3-0 inside the first half, I guess the players themselves also couldn't be bothered anymore. Southampton also had nothing to play for given that they had cemented 8th place.

2) Were The Ones Leaving Putting On A Show?
Everyone was so lousy, that my player of the match was probably Vidic. Alongside Evra and Rio, I guess Giggsy felt sentimental and let them have a start. They really arn't good enough anymore. Can't wait for Luke Shaw to replace Evra, as much as I think Evra gets United. We also need a really good CB to replace Vidic, so Rio might stay around for one more season who knows? Carrick also needs to go. Yet Cleverley, Fellaini or Fletcher are not the answer. Kagawa and Mata will hopefully stay on. Ashley Young will hopefully be sold. Nani and Valencia can stay on in my books, although with Januzaj, there is only one wing to fight for.

3) No One Wants To Get Hurt
With Rio 2014 around the corner, it looked like no one wanted to really exert themselves, for nothing. So that's understandable, but still you'd have hoped that the players would have generated a better feast for the eyes. Hopefully those who end up staying will improve their performance next season.

4) Future Is Bright
I can name the young blood that could hopefully be given more chances next season. James Wilson, Tom Lawrence, Saidy Janko, Andreas Pereira, Will & Michael Keane. Then we have Januzaj, Jesse Lingard, Nick Powell, heck and even Wilfred Zaha still in our books. We definitely could have given alot of our youngsters more chances this season given how shitty it was. Hopefully the new manager can see freshness in them.

5) Much To Look Forward To
At the start of this season, I was really excited. Then things went really much downhill from there. Hopefully, we will see a better emotional ride for Man Utd fans in the 2014/15 season. With Louis Van Gaal purportedly set to be the new manager, I can't wait to see his brand of Total Football. Then there are all those players we've been linked with, where the more reliable ones seem to be William Cavalho, Toni Kroos, and Luke Shaw. We don't need that many players, since we're not really competing in Europe next season. Hope we offload all that deadwood.

And so, Manchester City won the title. Thank goodness. So alls well that ends well. Liverpool couldn't add to their 18 title tally, we got rid of Moyes, and the title stays in Manchester.

Can't wait for next season when we start challenging again!

GGMU!!!

2048 IV

Wah really outdid myself this time...

Jet Lagged

Hate the jet lag.

Copenhagen is a six hour time difference, and twelve hour flight away.

Going there on the midnight flight, I arrive at 6am in the morning.

I wake at 3 or 4am almost every night, because it's 9 or 10am in Singapore. Plus it's spring, so the sun's up before 5am. I get tired by 6pm because it's 12am in Singapore.

Before my body can adjust, I'm back on the noon flight and I arrive at 6am in the morning again, this time in Singapore. Hardly any sleep as it was a day flight.

And now I'm up wide awake at 5am, because it's still 11pm in Copenhagen.

Tired.

2048 III

Another new record! If only just a wee bit more than my previous high score.

Weird that my version has no undo button.

Wifey has distanced herself even further at 70K+! Grrr...
