The Jealousy Of Victory

I'm beginning to feel like last night's match has made me a bigger Manchester United fan than ever before.

Maybe it was the jealousy of not being able to celebrate an amazing victory.

Maybe it was the amazing standards Barcelona played that left me amazed that another team was capable of tearing us apart so comprehensively.

Maybe it was the romantics of all things Barcelona, the autocratic state of Catalunya et al.

Maybe it was the fact that there really was nothing and no one to blame for this loss. No variable permutation of our players or formation would have changed much of anything.

I'm proud as ever of what we have achieved this season. Still beyond my wildest dreams early in the season.

Six games in at the start of the season, if anyone had mentioned we'd make it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, finals of the Champions League, and most significantly, league title number 19 in the bag, I might have refused to believe them one bit.

Sometimes, all we need is a little more belief.

Passed To Death

Admittedly, we lost to the better team. In fact, we lost to the best team.

I've had some sleep and still I feel like crap.

It's amazing how helpless it feels playing an opponent that can pass you into submission, regardless of how good you were.

We were all clapping for each successful tackle more than anything because chances were few and the statistics make a mockery out of our efforts to disrupt their play.

Probably we gave a better account for ourselves compared to 09. Rooney did score that wonder goal afterall, which gave us hope. Though that was not to be.

It is the start of a boring 2 months.

Just hoping that there will be some interesting transfers to look forward to.

Still proud to be a Man U fan through and through.

Tonight

Let's be honest with ourselves here for abit.

I know we're not favourites to win, but all I want is to see us try our best.

We have a chance and hopefully the team does us proud.

Believe.

They say the only constant in life is change.

And with change we just need to adapt.

It is with optimism and positivity, things will eventually turn out for the better.

Swearing In The New Cabinet

Let's give the new cabinet a chance!

PM Lee sounds quite sincere on TV for once!

Else we always have the option to change the cabinet again in 5 years :)

Judgement Day II

Ok apparently Rapture will begin at 6pm local time, where all deserving good devout Christians will go to heaven, aka die in some natural disaster, while everyone else will hang around until October 21st before the world REALLY ends for good.

Hmm.

Wonder what's gonna happen to all the non-Christians?

Earthquakes, people, earthquakes!

Judgement Day

Tomorrow, 21st May 2011.

Supposedly Judgement Day. End of the world.

Hopefully life goes on.

I want to make tons of money with my options! :)

I thought the next end of the world was on 21st December 2012?

How come no one's made a film about tomorrow at all?

EURUSD 1.64 Call Option

Expiring on the 21st Of September this year.

Cost me only $75.

This could be my big ticket to riches!

MAS: Inflation Set To Ease For Rest Of 2011

I think that means we might have seen a low for USDSGD at 1.22.

Still a good catch at 1.24 right now.

Perhaps it is time to move some funds into US equities?

Wells Fargo anyone?

Cabinet Reshuffle

What? Is this a game of musical chairs? Did PM Lee just pick names from a tikum box?

Some of his choices for the new cabinet are somewhat baffling. I mean, it's like he just told MBT, WKS and Raymond Lim to bugger off, then he said, everyone else, shift to the seat on your left, that's your new portfolio.

Eh, how come the Education seat is empty? Ah Heng, you come and sit in for one term. You do well then I give you more stuff to do. See Tharman? But must do well ah...

I hope the WP MPs give a credible account for themselves at the next parliamentary session.

Aug 2

The USD has hit it's borrowing limit.

Come Aug 2nd, something will have to give, either the debt ceiling is raised or spendig reduced. Otherwise, an unthinkable US default might occur.

Unthinkable? Think again.

Time to bet on EURUSD hitting 1.7 by then perhaps?

One Reason I Love Manchester United So Much

Everyone is part of the team and the success of their 19th BPL title is all down to one amazingly huge team effort.

Is there a star in the team? Heck most of them are! But there is no big superstar. Not one. And everyone contributed in one way or the other.

I can't really name a player of the season but if I'm forced to I'd say it was Vidic. The guy was rock solid all year, though abit more shouting from him would have been nice.

VDS was outstanding. Too bad he's retiring.

Ryan Giggs is evergreen. My favorite player of all time.

Hernandez was a steal. From his first goal he scored so luckily with his face, I knew he was a good buy.

Nani was great for us at the start. Berbatov is still the league's top scorer. Fletcher was everywhere until a virus caught up with him. Michael Carrick then took over from where Fletcher left off. Smalling is the future of our defence. The da Silva twins are our future left and right backs. Scholes still passes around the park like no other. Park still has 3 lungs. Evra is Mr Reliable. Valencia made an amazing comeback. Rio is still rock solid when he's healthy. Neville retired at the right time. O'Shea is still one of the safest players around.

And last but not least of the special mentions: Rooney. Man I hated him for what he pulled off at the start of the campaign, but I think it's time we pat this guy on the back and say 'Well done, lad.'

This number 19 is one sweet title for us fans and it's made all the sweat and anxiety and heartache all worthwhile. All ABUs who doubted this team can now witness the sheer power of a collective pursuit relying on teamwork. Thanks to the brilliance of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Now for the Champions League and title number 20 next season!

Glory glory Man United!

Retirement Of MM Lee And SM Goh

1. Big ups for their contributions towards the nation that Singapore is today. Every Singaporean has alot to thank then for.

2. That being said, this GE has shown that these two big guns were getting a tad out of touch with the electorate.

3. They will still have a bearing on many of PAP's policies but it is a good step forward that they do not have these ministerial posts hanging over their heads. At least their views can be more easily defined as their own rather than the PAP's.

4. For MM Lee in particular, this is a good move pre-empting his passing one fine day. Singapore can at least show that we can still survive without his ministerial shadow in the backdrop. And at least he will still be alive to see his legacy thrive.

5. Good to dilute MM Lee's accolades for his integral contribution towards nation building while he is still alive. Better than a tsunami of thanksgiving only after he dies. In fact, it will almost guarantee that his legacy will live on as long as Singapore remains a sovereign nation.

6. Give that man a statue already! My utmost respect to our founding father.

7. As a Marine Parade voter, don't you feel somewhat taken for a ride after GCT led his team to a slight victory and then retires from his post in the cabinet? GCT has done his part for this nation as well, and this exit strategy will preserve the good he has done. Hopefully he still helps the constituency.

8. Once again, this is a good move by them both. I look forward to us developing and advancing even further as a developed nation.

Number 19

Manchester United won it's 19th BPL title today making it the winningest club in England.

Glory glory Man United!

Let's win the Champions League too!

A Big Win For PAP?

Apparently not. Even though the PAP now dominates 93% of parliament (sadly TPL included), there are some interesting tidbits arisen from this year's GE that we should note of.

1. This is the opposition's biggest win since independence. Albeit a pathetic 7% representation, it will be interesting to see what they will be capable of given their impressive political resumes. There will be 6 opposition candidates this time around.

2. They are all from the WP. And what a force this might be if harnessed properly. All from the same party, there will be a united opposition front in parliament.

3. Of the 3 NCMP slots, 2 seats got to WP candidates (East Coast GRC & Joo Chiat) and Lina Chiam from the SPP. This makes 8 united opposing voices against the ruling party.

4. Overall, PAP only garnered 60% of the popular vote, meaning 40% of voters actually voted for the monkey. This is a 6% drop by the PAP from the last elections. What this means is that it will only be a matter of time that the PAP relinquishes it's majority if it still continues it's elitist overtures.

5. We will see the last of candidates like TPL. Given the huge drop in popularity, the PAP is more likely to ensure that all their candidates in future will be of much greater calibre, lest they lose more ground and potential ministers.

6. We haven't seen the last of Nicole Seah yet. 90,000 fans on Facebook can't be wrong. She is destined for greater things. And we will see her in 2016.

7. We might end up with a 2 party system afterall. Especially if the WP really does things well in the wards under their control. It will be interesting to see who the PAP will consider fielding in Aljunied come next GE.

SG GE 2011

Quick reactions.

1. So the WP win Aljunied and Hougang while the PAP sweep everything else. Big winner is the WP for their Aljunied GRC win. It means 6 opposition voices in parliament compared to 2 previously.

2. My heart goes out to George Yeo, the biggest loser of this elections. A brilliant, humble man and one much more deserving of a seat in parliament then many of the other PAP shooins. I can only hope he gets another role that helps represent the people. Else maybe he should consider an opposition role at GE 2016 (you know the PAP will never afford that).

3. Chiam See Tong steps down after more than 27 years serving the people, having lost the Bishan-Toa Payoh ward. Abit sad but I kinda got the feeling his time was up. I can only wish him the best of health. Time for the man to take a backseat and smell the roses.

4. SDP's Holland-Bukit Timah lineup definitely disappointed by their results. Wasn't even close. Tan Jee Say should have joined the WP lah.

5. Nicole Seah. A rising star. She gave Goh Chok Tong a very good run for his money. I can only foresee good things for her political career if she steers herself on the road towards the administration.

6. Tin Pei Ling. The most undeserving of the 87 seats allotted. Even if you negated her booboo and then ignorance of her supposed offence during cooling off day, and the numerous times she's been posterized and insulted in the new media for unwanted unbecomings and behaviours, I still cannot accept that she is going to be a part of parliament. Much unlike what the government might think, she is not a voice of our younger Singaporean generation at all. She is but a policy agreer to the ruling party with no voice of her own, going by every single one of her pre-election rhetorics.

7. The GRC system has failed spectacularly when George Yeo is out and Tin Pei Ling is in. Something is terribly wrong.

8. I am happy that PAP retained it's seat in my ward at Pasir-Ris Punggol. I think Teo Ser Luck has done a good job so far. I hope he is destined for greater things.
