Went to HK for work in late May, early April.
Worked for a week out of the HK office and then stayed the weekend to catch the HK Rugby Sevens and help out with the hospitality there.
Great fun, awesome company and really good food.
Glad that HK has opened up even if it’s about a year behind us.
HK really needs to continue to prosper in order for Singapore to prosper.
During my trip, someone told me this interesting theory. Singapore and Hong Kong should not be considered rivals. We need Hong Kong as much as Hong Kong needs us. This is because we are two cities where the rich and poor coexist in the most blended way, with a middle income that is largely affluent. So among Asian cities we both have to be around to show that such systems can work. If one fails, the other will crumble too as populism and begrudging discontent among not only the poor but middle class will fester and overspill into a change of political and economic system. Discontent with the rich and successful is never a good ingredient for forward progress.
Hence both SG and HK have to thrive together.
Onward to both!
Here are some random pictures of my stay, which was mainly in Central. So I was hanging out in SoHo, MidLevels and LKF those kinda areas.
