Session 3: Going Through the Motions

yay. session 3 was really a go through the motions week for me. dunno why. think its because i had such good campers. this week the campers ages were 10-11 which is lower than the normal ute cabin age of 11-12(which does make alot of difference!).

anyway i had ryan joe robert ian.stimely ian.anderson erik and dylan and they were all good kids. travis is my co this week. they listen to me all the time and think i'm super cool because i dressed up as jackie chan on monday for this all camp game and now all the kids in camp call me jackie chan hahaha. travis is abit of an ah-guah. just two nights ago there was a mouse in the cabin and he was screaming like a girl and didn't dare get off his bed. wtf? anyway other than that he's pretty good and neat haha, and he says i'm the best co he's ever worked with so he wants to do another week with me and i agreed. doesn't matter who i do co with anyway.

yesterday was a highlight.

tim is a semi-paraplegic(is that how you spell it?) and he was on my hiking cluster yesterday. we were to hike to bear cave which was about 2 miles away. so the whole hike i stayed behind and held his hand and walked him there. there's something very satisfying to interract with a child who's refuses to allow his disabilities cloud his ambitions. somehow i considered it a priveledge to have been given this opportunity to walk with him when other counsellors didn't look up for the task. we talked alot and even though his speech was slurred you could comprehend that he had a vast ocean of experience that he wanted to share. it was an enjoyable walk and even though we lagged in time, i managed to keep my promise of allowing him to see bear's cave. on the way back we had to rush back for lunch so i piggy-backed him back to camp. i guess thats one trully memorable highlight of the week.

apart from the that my camper ryan is a pain. he's always getting into fights with other kids and i have to drag him to one side to talk to him about self-control. i thought he might have been able to change but he's still annoying people when he know's he shouldn't thought he doesn't hit people anymore because i threatened to send him home. still i do hope he'll change for the better. he comes from an abusive family so i really dunno what's gonna become of him in the future. i wrote to his grandmother(who's taking care of him) about how i'm taking care of him and all that but still haven't received a reply yet. hope he will change bah.

other than that the only other highlight was catching spiderman 2!!!! i loved it!!! we watched it at granby which is a super small theatre. i got kicked by alice cos she got scared watching it and i was unfortunate enough to be sitting beside her. geez. the theatre inside looks just like the old republic cinema! only its got 2 screening rooms thats all. haha.
