And....all of a sudden, it's the last day of2014?! How fast time flies! Especially when you’ve got kids!
Anyway 2014 has been a so-so year. It hasn’t been terrible, but it definitely hasn’t be terrific either.
Anyway, once again, here’s last year’s review.
And once again, here’s a review of 2014 resolutions:
1)Achieve 100% Increase In AUM FAILED
This one I failed spectacularly. The key losses in AUM were in the last two months of the year and oh my what a spectacular downfall. I wish I could blog more details about it and perhaps someday I will, but this blog post will suffice for now. Hopefully I can make it all back and more in 2015. Wonder what the new year will bring for me.
2)Achieve $500/mth Dividend Income Stream FAILED
Surprisingly even though I failed in this one, I’m quite proud of what I achieved, ending the year with an average monthly dividend stream of $190.90 at last count. I think I will stick to the $500 mark again for 2015 and hope to achieve better returns even if I should fail.
3)Improve My Social Circle FAILED
Didn’t happen. I think I’m turning full-fledged daddy mode now. Some days I prefer to spend time at home with the noisy kids rather than go drinking or partying now. Getting older.
4)Continue Exercise Regime FAILED
Yeah, with THAT ACL injury this was also never gonna happen.
5)Appreciate My Wife And Family More PASSED
This must be one of the worst years for achieving resolutions with a 1/5 pass rate! Nonetheless it’s something I’m very happy with. I appreciate the labours of my wife so much more, and I cannot love my kids enough.
Ok, time to think about my resolutions for 2015!

Tottenham Hotspurs 0 Manchester United 0
What a Christmas treat! 2 matches in 2 days! Too bad it was not the result we wanted. We really should have won but for poor finishing and a very in-form Hugo Lloris.
1) Scary Attack
As I just mentioned during the last game, we have one helluva scary attack. considering LVG did not make any changes to the team that beat Newcastle on Friday, here was a front five that really could threaten any side in Europe. Falcao and RVP up front, supported by Young, Rooney and Mata. Therefore its really a pity that we couldn't score even though we have so many chances. Perhaps the strikers need to be even more clinical, especially when faced with a very, very good keeper.
2) Right Wing
Notice that I only mentioned five players even though LVG played his 3-5-2 formation again? There's Carrick, our ultra dependable CM, and then there's Antonio Valencia, our Player Of The Year 2012. He's really been a shadow of his former self. But in recent games, his athleticism has improved since his ankle break in 2013, but he needs to do even better if he's to cement a permanent place in LVG's lineup. Then we have Rafael who's just so good in the 4-4-2 but he's not a wingback unfortunately. Hopefully one of them will step up in 2015. Anyway Rafael came on at half time to replace Tony V due to injury.
3) Carrick And CM/DM Position
Still one of our most underrated players, he suffered a knee-high leg breaker from one of the Spurs players who really should have been sent off. Hopefully we don't lose him to injury. Along the way, I have read that Daley Blind has begun training with the first team in recent days. Hopefully he can make a return as well. Herrera is also missing from the starting line-up. Maybe not match fit I guess.
4) Defence
As I've mentioned how poor our defence has constantly been all season long, as we adjust to the 3-5-2 system, last night's game actually turned in a pretty good performance for the trio of Jones-McNair-Evans. Even though McNair was replaced by Smalling and Evans was replaced by Shaw, the initial trio did pretty well by their standards with only Evans looking uncertain sometimes. DDG was as usually absolutely reliable.
5) Tale Of Two Halves
In the first half, we were actually far superior and wasted SO many chances! Yet in the 2nd half, Pochettino made some good changes like pressing further up the pitch and that screwed up our system. Spurs came on strong in the 2nd half and we had some nervy moments. I still can't make out why we cannot seem to adjust to a changed system or formation from the opponent. In fact, just as Spurs made substitutions to go for the win, we made substitutions to defend the draw. Therefore it always makes sense to be more clinical.
Oh well, at least we end 2014 on a good note, lying in 3rd position with everyone above us dropping points as well. One year ago, we happened to be winning here and there, then dropping points like no tomorrow, with no tactics, no plan B and no ideas, which I opined at the start of the year. Now we have LVG, a philosophy to follow, and a strategy that has worked very well (we are 9 games unbeaten), and the top teams are afraid of us. Under Moyes, we basically took 4 points out from the top 4 (lost twice to Man City and Liverpool, lost once to Arsenal and Chelsea, drew once with Chelsea and beat Arsenal). Today, we already beaten Arsenal and Liverpool, drawn with Chelsea and lost to Man City in the first half of the season. Already a better return.
Hopefully we end the season strong and get 3rd place or better!

Manchester United 3 Newcastle 1
Actually I thought I'd blogged an entry for this match already but realized I hadn't.
1) Forward Masterclass
With Falcao and RVP up front, supported by Mata and Rooney in AM, we definitely were on top for most of the 90mins. If we can stay healthy and keep up this sort of play, we'll be very formidable given we will more often than not outscore our opponents. Falcao, for one, didn't score but had the first assist and made the decisive tackle that led to our 2nd goal. Mata was surprisingly effective, assisting the 2nd goal. RVP scored the 3rd with a sublime header. Rooney was MOTM with 2 goals and provided the 3rd assist. Impressive.
2) Wings Feature Again
Both Young and Valencia and slowly making the wins their own once more. Credit where it's due, Young is improving with each game and to see him marauding down the left wing with confidence again is a clear indication of his revival under LVG. Tony V while not as impressive, is slowly regaining his athleticism. More to come please.
3) Carrick The One Man Show
At DM, Carrick is playing the role vacated by Blind with aplomb. He adds such composure to our midfield and covers well for our lousy defence. Truly the DM role is so understated and underappreciated yet so vital to our successful season this far. I'd had hoped more people would notice the great work Blind and Carrick have been doing. In fairness to Rooney, who's played as a CM-DM, he's tracking back very well too. Clearly he was our player with the best stamina.
4) Defensively Frail Still
Evans and Jones were not the worst defenders on the day, but the mere fact tht young Paddy McNair was played in the centre of the defensive trio said it all about LVG's confidence, or lack of, in those two. Jones can be a monster at defence when he gets his groove back, but while doing well most game, that clumsy lazy leg that gave a penalty really shows he's still got to try harder. Evans also put in an ok shift but nothing to shout about. Still prone to contributing a few nervy moments here and there. McNair is one to watch for the future along with Tyler Blackett. In LVG's 3-5-2 formation, the trio that's worked best so far with ironically the most composure IMHO is Smalling-Rojo-Blackett/McNair. And still that doesn't fill anyone with full confidence.
5) DDG
Speaking of confidence, the standout player of the season is David de Gea by a mile. He's really turning in stellar performances left, right and centre. Hopefully his contract situation gets sorted soon and I hope he will be with us for the rest of his career. This season, the number of times I've messaged, "OMG DDG" is now countless.
Well Spurs away are up next in this Christmas period bonanza. I hope we grind out a win at White Hart Lane.

All Of Me
All Of Me lyrics
My fav song of the moment.
[Verse 1:]
What would I do without your smart mouth?
Drawing me in, and you kicking me out
You've got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down
What's going on in that beautiful mind
I'm on your magical mystery ride
And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright
[Pre-Chorus:]
My head's under water
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind
[Chorus:]
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, ohoh
[Verse 2:]
How many times do I have to tell you
Even when you're crying you're beautiful too
The world is beating you down, I'm around through every mood
You're my downfall, you're my muse
My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues
I can't stop singing, it's ringing, in my head for you
[Pre-Chorus:]
My head's under water
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind
[Chorus:]
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, ohoh
[Bridge:]
Give me all of you
Cards on the table, we're both showing hearts
Risking it all, though it's hard
[Chorus:]
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you
I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, ohoh

W Hotel Sentosa - A Family Staycation 2015
I actually remember that I blogged about our last staycation here a year ago. Had good memories of the hotel.
So yet another year on, yet another family Staycation on Sentosa island.
I must say I've travelled long enough as a Starwood SPG Platinum member to roughly expect an upgrade over the previous year's room standard, and boy did we receive one.
Enter the Junior Exec Suite.
The room was uber huge and thankfully super-impressed the wifey and kids. So I cannot complain at all.
All in all a good staycation. Finally got to spend quality time in the pool as well, which was fantastic. Staff were excellent (except a small matter of screwing up my late 4pm checkout) so I have very little to complain about. We even had complimentary drinks at the Woobar where my boy still got to write his ABCs and 123s.
Spent the first day just chilling at the pool followed by dinner at Brussel Sprouts @ Quayside Isle. The rain wasn't very kind on us. Next day we had a full day of drizzle but we made the best decision by bringing the kids to USS, rain or shine! Then on the third day we went to the Port of Lost Wonders which is like a water playground for kids.
All in all a great staycation again!
Oh and they still have my favourite soap of all time!
ACL Rehab Day #174
Can you believe that this is the first run I've had in more than a month?
My last full workout was on the 14th of Nov!
Anyway I did the exact same route and considering how long since I last ran, I possessed good enough stamina to actually run non-stop for 80% of my standard route.
Followed by the static workout and the walk up 15 stories of stairs as usual.
Hopefully I have more discipline to do this at least once a week from now on. Can really feel the unhealthiness creeping into my body. Feeling fatigued and sluggish these days, with inner aches from dunno where.
Thankfully not falling sick. Yet.

Aston Villa 1 Manchester United 1
Boo what a lousy result following six wins on the trot...
1) Defence Still In A Mess
Every game we attempt the 3-5-2 formation it feels like we're inviting the opponents to take advantage of our super high defensive line. Last night we had Jones, Carrick and Evans there and it was a terrible trio. Not that they played exceptionally bad, but they just weren't good, and weren't composed enough. If we want to keep this formation, we really need better defenders. A trio of Rojo, McNair and Blackett would be more soothing. Didn't help that Evans gave away Villa's goal.
2) Ashley Young
I've given him so much stick last season but this season he's been such a revelation. Against the boos of his former club, he came through all the controversies and unwanted attention very well. Made the left wing his own. Possibly my vote for MOTM. Also assist Falcao's goal.
3) Darren Fletcher
Much as I have a soft spot for him, this season shows he's not United standard. It's quite sad to see and I'll wish him all te best if he leaves for another club, but he's really not good enough with performances likes last night's. Misplaced passes, being run round in circles and generally unable to stamp any authority at all. Rightly substituted at half time.
4) Juan Mata
For some weird reason (and we can always debate this when the team doesn't get results), Mata wasn't substituted all game, even though he was having a very anonymous game. Instead, we had RVP, Valencia substituted, both of whom played far better and provided a bigger threat than Mata did all game. What gives?
5) Fearsome Attack
One of the bright spots is the attacking potential we have. With RVP partnering Falcao and supported by AdM and Rooney, we look rightfully scary. Hopefully we can churn out a lot of goals in the games to come
Hopefully we can get past this drab draw and start a new winning run starting next weekend!

A Life Of Luxury
Something I want to give and provide for my family. And yet I feel so far from achieving my dreams.
Whenever I am feeling low
I look around me and I know
There's a place that will stay within me
Wherever I may choose to go
I will always recall the city
Know every street and shore
Sail down the river which brings us life
Winding through my Singapore
This is home truly, where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me, where the river always flows
This is home surely, as my senses tell me
This is where I won't be alone, for this is where I know it's home
I look around me and I know
There's a place that will stay within me
Wherever I may choose to go
I will always recall the city
Know every street and shore
Sail down the river which brings us life
Winding through my Singapore
This is home truly, where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me, where the river always flows
This is home surely, as my senses tell me

Manchester United 3 Liverpool 0
Wow. What a difference a year, and a change of manager makes.
Last season's same fixture ended in shambles for us so going into the game I was hopeful but apprehensive.
1) DDG Masterclass
Have to get this out of the way. Considering that he received the team's Player Of The Month award right before the game, I'm sure no one had an inkling of what is to come. Oh my, David de Gea, what a true masterclass. 3 saves from Sterling, 4 saves from Balotelli and many in sure scoring situations. I was in awe, seriously. The amount of times I actually commented "OMG DDG!!!" on my FB chat was too many to count. I just hope we tie him down to a new contract and he won't leave us next season when Real Madrid comes calling. #davesaves
2) Defence Is Still Not Good Enough
With yet another makeshift defence of Jones, Carrick and Evans, this showing simply wasn't good enough. If Liverpool were abit more clinical or DDG not in God-mode, they definitely would have scored a few. Phil Jones and Evans are only recently back from injury and look terribly rusty. It didn't help that they played a 3-man defence instead of 4, where two CBs would've been more assuring. We really need to improve this department if we're to mount a serious title challenge.
3) Wing Backs Flying Again
It is somewhat hard to fathom that Tony V and Ashley Young could get back into our good books, but they both are slowly but surely doing so with performances like these. Tony absolutely dominated his right wing all night long, providing the assist for the first goal and threatening the flank each time he runs up. He might have lost abit of pace since his ankle break two seasons ago, but he's slowly working his way back to form. Ashley Young also assisted the 3rd goal and was a menace down the left. Funny we didn't use him more, but he definitely enjoying a renaissance in his game. Long may that continue.
4) Midfield Can Improve
The midfield of Mata, Fellaini and Rooney was fairly ok. I actually thought Rooney was having a good game but he was taken off for Herrera. Scored the first goal which was awesome. Fellaini was a monster throughout. Granted, I thought his 4th minute yellow card meant a red soon at some point. Instead, he was immense throughout, although he still has the tendency for the occasional sloppy pass to an opponent. Mata, was erm...Mata. Anonymous for periods of the game, and then pops up several times at the right moments. Assisted the 2nd goal too. Hopefully he continues this form. Even saw him tracking back quite often last night.
5) Attack Is Improving Too
Our starting lineup of James Wilson and RVP wasn't super scary, but RVP marked his return to form by scoring his 4th goal in his last 3 games, while Wilson provided the pace. I'm just concerned that Wilson doesn't seem to be contributing as much even though LVG rates him so highly. When Falcao came in that was when things looked scary. If he is fully fit and RVP is on form, I think we will have a very scary attacking lineup.
Hopefully we can continue this rich vein of form. 6 wins on the trot and we are 3rd in the league. Hopefully we can mount a serious challenge and maybe even win the league!

Bold Statement
So my good friend goes:
It's so early in the season and we're lying 3rd, with 11pts separating us and Chelski with tonight's game to spare.
Mathematically we have more than enough game to make up ground on Manchester City and Chelsea. All we need is for LVG to turn in the winning streaks!
I sure hope we beat Liverpool tonight!
GGMU!!!
Christmas In Wonderland
The kids performed for the first time at their school's year end concert!
So proud of them!

Traffic In Jakarta
You know what's the problem with Jakarta?
It's transport infrastructure.
I've covered this before 2 years ago and today it is still the same. Traffic is an absolute slow crawl because there are just too many vehicles on the road, the the road system is just not conducive enough to unclog these mass orgies of traffic jams on a daily basis. It's public transport system is also not good enough. There are not enough buses, trains nor even good enough pavements for the public to use. Anyone coming from the airport can take between half an hour to a staggering three hours (!!!), depending on the traffic conditions on the day.
The road system is also very archaic. There is little use of traffic lights or roundabouts to allow any changes in direction. Most of this can only be done at major roundabouts in the heart of the city. What this means is that if you missed a turn, or if you see your hotel on the opposite side of the road, there won't be any slip road to allow you to turn in. Instead, you have to wait till the next available roundabout which could be up to one kilometer away, in the jam. Personally I have experienced for myself, a half hour wait in the taxi to get through the sprawling jam to the next roundabout and make a U-turn, even though my destination was just on the opposite side of the road not far from where I began my journey.
And yet walking is also not a very good option. The roads used to be unsafe as it was easy to get mugged. Even though that is all cleaned up now, there are hardly any pavements for walking. Even if there were, there would be a long distance to walk primarily because one building to another tends to be rather far apart and commercial buildings tend to be pretty far from retail centres.
Of course with the new president, Jokowi, many are very hopeful that finally there will be change in many things and transport infrastructure is one of them. With Jokowi at the helm, the mantel of Jakarta Mayor actually went to his no2 in Jakarta, Mr Basuki (Ahok), the first mayor of Jakarta of Chinese descent. So there is actually much hope that he will bring about positive developments for Jakarta in the years to come.
Traffic here is also so bad that it is a norm to actually be late, often citing traffic as the key reason for missing appointments.
Yesterday a client actually said he took two hours, just to travel a mere 3km to meet us. What a joke.
I can actually see the MRT finally being worked on, after >10yrs of crowing about its eventuality. So that is one good sign to come.
Am very hopeful for Jakarta to grow even faster as a city in time to come!

APAC Offsite
Finally over.
I think it went quite well and all participants gave pretty good feedback. Here're some highlights.
1) Knowing You, Knowing Me
Considering that we had people from five different offices, employees old and very new, I thought we did a great job integrating everyone. The fact that we managed to conduct the whole event in as much English as possible, with everyone comprehending what was taught, was commendable. It was a great event to help put a face to every name finally.
2) CRM
It is no surprise that our CRM system is one of the most complex. All the new users reflected that they learnt a lot of its capabilities. Even the senior staff got to learn it's updated advanced functions.
3) Beer Trail
This was definitely the event most enjoyed by all participants. Not just for the beers, but also the sightseeing, silly activities and bonding with colleagues. This was very highly raved about. The sight of my Japanese colleague celebrating the photo opportunity of drinking water sput out by the Merlion was priceless!
4) Sales, Sales And More Sales
An external workshop, and a Sales Dialogue Process Flow was another highlight that a lot of the participants enjoyed. Even for the old birds, there was still so much to learn as we all update ourselves and adjust to the demands of our dynamic industry.
5) Lunch @ Sarnies
Closure to our mega event of the year. I think everyone felt sad it all had to end so fast. Yet it was fitting that this whirlwind get together ended this way on a high. Everyone was so tired already and we've just had a weekend burnt.
Hopefully this pays off handsomely in the year ahead!

Damn You Charli XCX
So I'm fetching the grumpy kids to school and telling them all about why they need to go to school yada yada. I turn on the car and suddenly Charli XCX's Break The Rules blares incessantly with "I don't wanna go to school, I just wanna break the rules!" on repeat mode.
The boy the asks, "Papa, why the 姐姐 say don't want to go to school?"
FML man.

Fatherhood - Reflections VI
I've had some time this week to spend tons of time with the kids while their mummy is away on holiday. It's something that I really relished and wanted to maximize.
Today is day four of daddy-care-while-mummy's-away and these are my key takeaways:
No Rest
Back from Bangkok on a Saturday and on to full time daddy mode almost immediately. There is no rest. The kids are restless and we need to do lots of stuff together while we can!
Hectic Work Schedule Ain't Stoppin' Me
It's seriously been a tough week at work. We've got so many events coming up, we're gearing up for month-end, training for new employees and a lot of fires to fight in office. But still I make sure I dislodge once I'm off work at 6pm.
Family Is Vital
It is fair to say that without strong support from my parents and siblings, life would be so much harder. They are the oil that keeps my clockwork of life going. They take over where I leave off and I always feel assured with the kids in their hands.
Trouble In The Koreas
Mummy isn't having as swell a time either considering that her roomie's gotten the stomach flu. Hopefully she'll be fine and healthy by the time she's back.
All Worthwhile
From intimate chats with the kids during mealtimes and bedtime, from listening to all that they have to say no matter the nonsense and the repetitions. From resolving their petty sibling squabbles, from always raising my voice and threatening some punishment when they get naughty. From WW's whiney complaints about feeling too tired to go to school each morning, from XX's tantrums over not pressing the lift buttons first. I find all the joys in every single moment.
This type of tiredness is not tiring to the mind. I wish I had more time with them. They are growing up so darn fast now that in a year or two they probably won't want to be seen near me.

Travel Blues
Feeling alone on my travels.
These days the budgets are tighter, the trips are more frequent, and there's less rest to be had.
At least it pays the bills though.
What was that movie about George Clooney being an executive who lived an isolated life of constant travel and the stories of his journeys. Ah yes, Up In The Air.
Can't do any worse than him in that show I guess.
Looking forward to catching United v Arsenal tonight.

ACL Rehab Day #137
So I went through my toughest endurance yet since I began running.
Did >5km jog almost in its entirety (far less walking), followed by 2 X 20 repetitions of bench press, bench push machines, and finished it off with a 15-floor walk up the stairs.
Almost couldn't breathe properly after that.
Very good session.
More of it soon!

Manchester United 1 Crystal Palace 0
A win is a win, regardless of performance.
1) Defence Is Finally Improving
Who would've thought a CB pairing of McNair and Blind would yield a clean sheet? McNair's reputation is growing by the day with each passing match. I hope he displaces Smalling/Jones/Evans this season. Blackett also could be his partner at CB. Luke Shaw was MOTM while Tony V did a decent job at RB. DDG had nothing to do all game haha.
2) Carrick Is Still Important
Who would've thought that at 33 Carrick would still make sure a calming difference? His positional play is still top notch.
3) Attack Has Become The Problem
Our frontmen made up of RVP, ADM, Rooney and Januzaj really didn't do enough. It was Mata's introduction that made the difference. Hopefully Falcao and Herrera can come back soon. RVP really needs to be rested. James Wilson is also yet to score a goal despite coming on as a substitute several times already. Rooney is just shite at midfield.
4) Fellaini The Ball Winner
Somehow Fellaini wasn't used very right last night. Still it didn't matter much when he won almost all his lobbed headers. Certainly could have scored too if not for the goal line clearance. He really provides such an added tactical presence.
5) Three Points
Is all that matters. Even though we played like crap most if the game, we had good possession and defence was tight. Hopefully we can bang in the goals soon. Onwards and upwards!

Manchester City 1 Manchester United 0
What a loss. Down to 10 men, we played so well that City needed to put in a defensive midfielder to shore up their defence. In fact, we looked as though we had the extra man. So proud of the boys.
1) Smalling's Last Game In A Long While
His red card in the 32' was one of the stupidest compilation of yellows I've ever seen. Obviously that was the key reason behind our loss and we an lay all e blame for tonight on him. The first yellow for blocking Joe Hart's keeper kick was stupid. The second yellow for scything James Milner down was equally stupid. What was he thinking man?! Surely Blackett and McNair, who today showed far more composure than Smalling and Rojo combined, deserves a start now. I don't wanna see Smalling start anymore in a long, long time.
2) The Rest Are Heroes
There is something about going down one man against the current champions. I honestly feared the worst an was expecting a goal rush like our 6-1 defeat three years ago. City were cutting us up so easily and you'd thought we were in for a hiding. Instead, after predictably conceding the first goal, our boys seemed galvanized and determined to put up a dignified performance. And the they did so well.
3) Special Mentions
It's hard to single out everyone for a stellar performance last night, but some managed to stand out even further to be counted. Fellaini gets my vote for MOTM. The guy is a monster when utilized properly, and the last few games have proved that. Compared to last season under Moyes, this season under LVG Fellaini looks like a different animal altogether, with some backup tactics obviously planned exclusively for him. David de Gea is a world class keeper. So many saves during the game he made look so simple. Amazing! Daley Blind's job is unglamourous but against top opponents he's really done everything so well, mopping up attack after attack. The cog that bounded the defence and attack. Luke Shaw is getting his fitness back and is showing why we paid so much money for him.
4) Injuries
Our defene is currently in tatters. Rafael is injured again, Rojo dislocated hi shoulder last night, Evans and Jones still on the treatment table. So much that in the 2nd half our CBs were Carrick and McNair, who both put in a very good shift. Like I said earlier, time to start a new pairing of Blackett and McNair, ditch the start-stop trio of Evans/Jones/Smalling.
5) The Ascendency
I've said it a few times this season, yes this is our worst start in EPL history, but when you look at what happened last year where we deteriorated at an accelerating rate as the season wore on, I actually see a reverse of that situation. LVG and Giggs have done a wonderful job and you can see that in the players' performances, which just keeps getting better and better. Obviously results are the key component but at the rate we are playing, I have no doubt that the good results will come sooner rather than later. Let's get that win next week against Crystal Palace!
Onwards and upwards!

Halloween Night At Clarke Quay
There was a Halloween event last night in Clarke Quay as with every year, so the wifey and I decided impromptu to park the kids at the gramps and head down for a couple cheonging session.
By golly Clarke Quay was sooooooooo crowded and it appeared like everyone was dressed up for the night!
We headed to Pump Room for a couple of Jaeger bombs followed by Highlander for Coronas. Thereafter it was back to the Pump Room again to catch the live band till late. The resident band has changed but their music was still awesome good ol' rock and roll.
We had so much fun that we partied till almost 2am!
Was great awesome fun!
Pump Room, after so darn long, still can deliver the goods. Happy!

Fury
Actually caught this with my dad. What a rare occasion!
1) Best Since SPR
It's already been touted as one of the best war movies since Saving Private Ryan, so I was quite pumped up for it. For me personally, the movie was, 'better than good'. It did not have the scale and expanse of Saving Private Ryan, but instead it was intimate, yet capturing all there was that war was supposed to be. I think I will watch it once more.
2) All That Gore
As with my above comment about this movie capturing all there was that war was supposed to be, the movie sure didn't save on the gore factor. That war is merciless, relentless and emotionless, this movie showed it in all its glory. Exploding body parts, the suffering of impending death, you name it. That being said, there was a very realistic aspect to all this gore that sent shivers down the viewers' spines.
3) Tank Warfare Masterclass
One of the key attributes that made the movie so highly acclaimed was the fact that it was one of the first movies ever made to specially focus on tank maneuvers, formations and warfare. Many a war movie always focused on infantry, naval or air warfare but few have ever attempted to focus solely on the tankies. This movie did it and did it good. The two best scenes were during the armoured battalion's advance on a town that was heavily fortified by the Germans, and another depicting the fight between four American M1 Abrams against one superior German Panzer. A tactical masterclass.
4) The Wonderful Cast
No good movie can survive without a good cast, and Brad Pitt and company sure gave a wonderful performance alright. Brad Pitt is particular I have always liked his acting and he did not disappoint once again.

Manchester United 1 Chelsea 1
9 games in and we're already 10pts behind a very, very strong Chelsea. So to be honest, I was quite convinced that they would beat us even on our own patch. So much so and that I layed $5 on them. Who would've thought RVP would pop up at the last minute, which made me so damn happy.
1) Fellaini The Revelation
He was definitely my MOTM today. Much has been said of how lousy he's been since his overpriced transfer in the David Moyes era. And it was only until the last game against West Brom that he started showing up. Last night he was in spectacular form, winning alot of tackles and tracking back to help out in D time and again. It was also his goalbound header that was saved before RVP swept into goal. It is almost as though he's becoming that box-to-box midfielder we all thought he wasn't! Glad that he's picking up form and I hope he has a successful career with us.
2) Strong Attack On Paper Only
Even without Falcao and Rooney, you would think that an attacking lineup comprising RVP, Mata, Januzaj and ADM would strike fear in any opponent. Yet throughout the game, we kept falling short. ADM was definitely not himself for the 2nd consecutive game. RVP was slated by me all game. He really seems to have lost alot since the 12-13 season and the just-ended World Cup. Mata was the most ineffective, and he was rightly taken off on 68". Januzaj is still too young and his inexperience showed against stronger opposition (last night was against Ivanovic or Luis Felipe). That said, there is something new to the team compared to last season when we continued to attack all the way into Fergie time. And that was well rewarded but RVP's 94th min goal.
3) Defence Still Could Be Better
Last night's Smalling-Rojo CB combo is yet another new CB pairing combo this season and it shows how bad the situation is for us in defence. With Rafael and Shaw showing much better form now, the leaky defence is just shy of a very good CB pairing that can stay off the injury list for at least two weekends. We have improved, but we still have a long way to go. Daley Blind is the one unsung hero who has been helping the back four shore up and mop up so many threats. I find it amazing that he doesn't receive more credit for the work he has done. DDG was at his usual best as well. When #davesaves, we are very difficult to beat.
4) Chelski Deserve Credit
Well they haven't lost a single game in 9 outings and are currently 4pts ahead of the closest 2nd-placed team. That really says something. Without Diego Costa up front, they were still a scary threat with Drogba, William, Oscar and Hazard up front. Yet the trully scary part was their indomitable (almost) defensive four of Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry and Luis. they really can close out a game. Well, almost. In midfield they have Fabregas and Matic who're one of the best out there. And in goal they have Cortois who's almost as good as DDG. So a draw really isn't so bad.
5) A Draw That Feels Like A Win
Weird isn't it? I was elated when we equalized and some haters have been saying that that's the level we MU fans have dropped down to when we're celebrating a draw at home. Here's the thing: we've come off a season where we've ended 7th, got beaten senseless but the entire top-6 last season, and worst of all, played with zero conviction, tactical acumen, drive nor solidarity. It was a season which just got worse and worse as it wore on. Now we have one of the master tacticians of the modern game, we have our team spirit back, we have a philosophy that is exciting to watch, and we have a team that's willing to fight till the end. This one game last night probably summed up our revival away from the David Moyes era. We are not completely revived yet, but LVG has us all believing we will get there, and winning trophies again. And that, feels like a total win for me.

ACL Rehab Day #116
Completed yet another >5km jog last night.
I can jog for a longer period compared to the first time where there was alot of stop-start on the back half stretch.
The physio went through my jogging motions the other day and recorded my jogging patterns in slow-mo. Turns out that I'm jogging with my right leg slanted to compensate for my weaker calf and thigh muscles. That is something I will need to continue working on.
Still on track for recovery.

Halloween Horror Nights 4
Was there with the wifey last night.
Great fun!
Here's five takeaways:
1) 4 Haunted Houses
Overall, I think RWS and USS did a great job with the place and setup. It was really quite scary and the props and actors were quite well made-up. The 4 haunted houses were the key attractions. For $50, this was quite a good deal. There was a theme for each house, The L.A.B. (aliens), Mati Camp (army ghosts), Jing's Revenge (school ghosts) and Jack's 3-Dementia (clowns). The best was probably Jing's Revenge because they did up the whole place like an old secondary school called 华信中学 with props and decor absolutely reminding me of the old Dunman High premises somewhat. There was also the traumatic scream from one of the ghouls at the wifey, “是你逼我的!”.
2) 4 Scare Zones
These were like free areas where no queuing was required and the ghouls and monsters just roamed about the elaborate props scary whoever. There was Scary Tales (fairy tale scaries), Canyon of the Cursed (cowboy and indians scaries), Demoncracy (ghouls invading city) and Bogeyman (child ghoulies). A few good scares here and there but these weren't all that scary due to the crowds.
3) Beware The Long Queues
Speaking of crowds, the one big drawback is the fact that it wa very, very crowded. For the haunted houses, one of them we even had to queue for an hour just for a five minute walk through. Even the Tranformers ride we had to queue for a good twenty minutes. And because it was so crowded, you sometimes miss the scares because the people in front got the 'pop out' scares already.
4) Good Clean Fun
I like the fact that the actors do not touch you. It actually prevents us and them from suffering any potential injuries or mishaps. Maybe some might feel that it decreases the scare factor, but with so many visitors milling through the haunted houses, here would bound to be a few manly types who would be more than eager to lay hurt on any effective scarers. Similarly the scares could potential cause visitors to fall if it turned physical. Kudos to USS, I noticed staff at many places inside the park and in the rides/houses. Queuing took quite long but were well organized and turnover was quite fast. In the end if it's good, clean and safe fun you want with a few good scares thrown in, then this is probably a good event for you.
5) Pack Some Alcohol
I have to admit that knocking back a few beers definitely reduces the tension and jitters. I had heard tales of people leaving the theme park after one haunted house visit. But when you're at a good high, either you don't pay that much attention to the scares and sudden boos, or you're more chilled such that they just don't scare you as much. It sure helps when you have a scared wifey beside you. Plus you need buff and strong biceps of steel to withstand the infamous female deathgrip that is bound to cause bruises.
All in all it was a really fun event and I'd encourage everyone to go at least once. Could do with a smaller crowd though.

Following the hilarious QOTDR I posted earlier, here's a few extra updates that are GOLD.
Same guy.

Our man: “The dragon is released out of the cage”
“The peanut is very addicting.”

ACL Rehab Day #101
Achievement unlocked.
Clocked my first >5km slow jog in more than 6mths. That's slightly more than 3mths after I had my ACL reconstruction.
The jog itself felt quite ok on the knee as I was conscious enough to try and not take large strides so that there is less impact when my foot hits the ground.
This morning there is a kind of muscle soreness on my leg muscles and knee that I haven't felt in a very long time. I hope it is a good thing, although a part of me is afraid that this feeling is like the same feeling prior to my ACL completely snapping while I happened to be having an innocent lunch 6mths ago, a day after the major collision at football.
Hoping for a good recovery.

8 Years In The Same Company
Last Thursday, a few of us colleagues celebrated our 8th year anniversary.
From the original 25 of us who joined when the Singapore office first began, we're now down to 5.
How the time flies and how we've all grown alot older and not sure whether we're any the wiser (for staying in the same company for so long).
4 of us celebrated by having a feast at Hai Di Lao. Chinese hotpot!
There is little to regret in my case. And I have much to be thankful for I guess.
Thank you Saxo.

Mummy The Closet Railroad Whiz
Managing to use all the Thomas railroad tracks to form this very impressive track sequence.
Who would've thought mummy was a railroad track whiz!
Manchester United 2 Everton 1
Statement of intent! Two wins on the trot!
1) David de Gea Is My MOTM
Saves a penalty at the stroke of halftime, then 4 saves in the final 10mins including two almost certain goals. Today, this boy was in beast mode, no doubt about that. Literally earned the three points for us today.
2) Our Attack Is Scary
Even without Rooney, our front four of ADM, Mata, Falcao and RVP is scarily good. ADM and Falcao gets on the scoresheet, Mata with an assist and RVP beig a better captain than Rooney ever was. If only he was more prolific. At least he lead by example and fought hard, which is more than I can say whenever Rooney wears the armband.
3) Defence Is Coming Together
For the second game in a row, our defence put in a very good shift. Young Paddy McNair did well partnering Rojo to shut out Lukaku, Rafael was at his inspirational best, and Shaw was passable. Even when Shaw limped off, Blackett, who covered for him did a decent job at LB. We're getting better and when we do reach the level we expect, this team will be very difficult to score against. Just see the youngsters and it makes me so proud.
4) Daley Blind - Perhaps Our Most Important Player That No One Gives Enough Credit To
Funny how no one gives much credit to the people doing the dirty work, much less doing it so well and so efficiently. I'm just a HUGE fan of Blind because hats he type of player I am. He mops up, pressures and protects everything that comes near our defence and is the primary reason why we can transition from defence to attack and vice versa so easily. A joy to watch him and he is the true 'first name on the team sheet', not Rooney.
5) Climbing Up The Table
With this win, we're now fourth on the table. Had we not lost to Leicester in that stupid game, we would've been at an even sweeter cemented position. Next up is WBA followed by a tough run of Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea. Yet seeing today's win, I'm far more optimistic now compared to last year. LVG has done a fantastic job and I have no doubts that we will continue to improve.
GGMU!!!

Manchester United 2 West Ham 1
What a win! One of the most nail-biting encounters I've had in awhile.
1) Another 19yr-old Impresses
Gotta give it to LVG. So many youngsters are getting chances and taking them in fact. Last night was young Paddy McNair, playing in the centre of defence as CB alongside Marcos Rojo. On the 60' mark we began to be on the receiving end of West Ham's endless swarm of attacks and boy did that boy impress. His one backward header foiling a near certain goal was probably the moment of the match.
2) Wayne Rooney's Moment Of Folly
As if I don't hate Rooney enough. Last night for the first 60' he actually appeared to have listened to our complaints and played more inspirationally and with more fight. And then he cynically kicked out at Stewart Downing when they were about to break. In front of the referee. Straight red. Some people have the cheek to compare him to Solskjaer's one-on-one chase and hack against Newcastle a long time back and I just don't believe it. This one just looked stupid. Maybe the good thing to come out of it all is that he'll be missing for our next three games. Time to appoint a better captain maybe in RVP, Blind or Fletcher (even if he's not good enough).
3) Rafael
What a difference a match makes. After his folly last match against Leicester, Rafael turned in a MOTM performance last night. Resolute in defence, swashbuckling going forwards, he is such a joy to watch when in such form. Even defending he wasn't rash and he actually won more headers last night than the rest of the season so far. Hopefully he can keep himself injury-free this season.
4) Poor Outings
IMHO Angel di Maria was one of those who didn't play as well. Perhaps West Ham wanted to neutralize him as a threat and fouled him too often early on. He lost abit of inspiration as the game wore on. Marcos Rojo wasn't that good as CB either. Maybe he wasn't used to the pace of the EPL yet. RVP still isn't in 2012-13 form yet, and he and Falcao still need time to develop some form of understanding.
5) Uncertain Defence
Somehow whether because we lack more world class talent or we just can't gel as a back four, our defence seems very uncertain and unconfident. If midtable teams can stay in the EPL on the back of staunch defences made up of journeymen, then there is no reason why our back four can't improve on it's communication and coordination. At the moment, the best back four we have now would probably be Rafael, Evans, Jones, Shaw. Yet our CBs are almost unable to ever play together more than one game.
Next up, Everton at home! Hopefully we can beat them!

ACL Rehab Day #89
Three months on, I thought my rehab was progressing fast.
Then on Wednesday I met a 17yr-old kid from Hwa Chong Institution who also did ACL Recon. Same injury caused by football and his operation was only two weeks before me (mid June). Dang he was already skipping and doing ladder stepovers!
Anyway I just continued with my own physio's exercises. Far more stationary than what that young kid was capable of.
Hoping for a full recovery soon!
Oh and I can't play even golf till after the new year :(

Leicester City 5 Manchester United 3
Just when you thought we'd turned the corner, we deliver such a bad capitulation that you wonder if we're back to square one again.
1) Wonderful Start
A front trio of Rooney, RVP and Falcao, backed by ADM, in front of Herrera and Blind, with a four man defence. Easy and awesome goals from RVP and ADM, what could go wrong?
2) Crazy Rafael Decision
It was crazy. First Rafael was obviously shoved off the ball blatantly, the he loses it and gets sucked into a dive. Penalty. And that was what changed the entire game. Four goals scored by Leicester thereafter. The referee Mark Clattenburg really had a nightmare of a game, giving Leicester two penalties and sending Tyler Blackett off.
3) The Capitulation
Thereafter, the entire defence crumbled. Smalling and Blackett just kept hoofing long balls all of a sudden and Leiceter came wave after wave. As Sam Allardyce properly put it, the defence was abysmal, but the real problem was that the team did not defend as a team. We were in sixes and sevens and that really was the beginning of the end. The entry of Mata actually made things worse actually.
4) Wayne Rooney The Lousy Captain
Once again, the decision to make Wayne Rooney a captain seems so horribly wrong. He makes all the mistakes and then goes on to blast everyone else. He also doesn't play like a captain should, bossing the game with more influence. Don't know why LVG can't see that.
5) All Is Not Lost
There are some positives though. Unlike last season. Firstly, our play is so much more exciting now especially when we're attacking. It always seems as though we'd score when we attacked initially. Secondly, the defence, abysmal as they were tonight, needs time to gel. Thirdly, Leicester City were actually good. At current rate, they'll probably end up in the top half of the table.
Next game is another tricky tie away to West Ham. If we don't start picking up wins, LVG might be in trouble.
Hopefully we sort the defence out.

Management Issues
Ever had that feeling like you're constantly stuck between a rock and a hard place at whichever turn you go?
Welcome to my world.
Ever since I began my new role, it's never been the same. The stress levels are now 10-fold, there are alot more worries, there's more politics to play, there's a fire every corner above below left right and center and worst of all, it feels like I'm the worst paid around here.
Welcome to my world.
It the best of analogies, it is akin to a Manchester United youngster coming through the academy and breaking into the first team. Your standards are higher, you know what the club and its fans expect, and you know the entire organization like the back of your palm. People all over know you as the 'fixer' because you know the ins and ours. And yet your pay relative to the new guys at your level who may not be as good as you and don't seem to 'get it' either, is bordering pathetic. Or they're paid 10X more! And that's perhaps how I feel right now.
That's not helped by the fact that the veterans who've been around seeing you rise up the ranks still seem to see you as the lowly entry-level staff like when you first joined the organization. The level of respect is low here. I guess at some stage it is fair to argue that respect needs to be earned, but as a matter of perception, everyone's guilty of the fact that they give more respect to the unknown quantity (a new guy in a high level position) than the perceivedly known quantity (a veteran who came up through the ranks).
Welcome to my world.
It's not all bad news though. There are certain positives, such as the senior management visibility is higher, there are that certain few individuals who make all these complaints come to nought in the organization, and the role increases my employability elsewhere by 10-fold. At least knowing that I can command a certain payscale outside of here makes me brave enough to entertain thoughts of seeing what's out there.
If there is something I have learnt and observed in the last 6 months about corporate behaviour, it is to never, ever be complacent about any new development that may seem to be in your favour. Conversely, don't ever feel down that a "leaning mountain (靠山)" may have disappeared, for a new one (or several) may have been waiting in the wings to take its place as your staunch ally. And for that I always remind myself how blessed I am.
Welcome to road map 2015 - To wake up from the 3 year slumber.

F1 Weekend
Don't remember working so much over an F1 weekend.
The Singapore F1 Grand Prix edition doesn't seem as much of a novelty anymore. At least not to the locals.
At least this year it gets abit exciting with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg duking it out for the championship.
Even in Singapore, Hamilton's on pole while Rosberg is right behind him.
Wonder who's gonna win it tomorrow night.

Manchester United 4 QPR 0
wow. Something we've all been waiting for. Exciting and purposeful. WE ARE BACK!
1) What A Frontline
A frontline with di Maria (ADM), Mata, Rooney and RVP is scary enough, then you add Falcao into the mix and what you have is something that will instill fear in the best of defences. Hopefully this bunch can go on to score a ton of goals this season. Will be very exciting to watch. ADM in particular is the creative force behind alot of our forays up front.
2) Midfield Impressario
In Daley Blind and Ander Herrera we have one of the best midfield partnerships since Scholes-Keane. With them around, you always felt assured like even if the opponents had the ball, we'd nick it back off them. Hopefully they can stay healthy. It looks like Fletcher is a definite benchwarmer now.
3) A Better Formation
By switching to 4-4-2, or more correctly, 4-1-3-2, our defence really looked alot more solid. Evans and Blackett at the back is far more assuring in a foursome than a trio. Tyler Blackett, oh my, something about him that is so non-flashy yet so self-assured. Mind you he's our only academy product who's started all four games this EPL. Glad to have Rafael back, and Marcos Rojo also put in a fairly good shift. DDG in goal was imperious as usual.
4) Falcao
It's weird that a player on load would command so much pre-match excitement in Manchester United. Coming off ACL surgery (been there done that), paid 300,000 pounds weekly, I kind of get the feeling that he might prove to be a disappointment when the season ends. Sure he'll bang in a few goals, but seeing him come on for the last 15mins last night, I wasn't that impressed by his performance. If there's one thing good that he's done though, its to put pressure on the other strikers like Rooney and RVP.
5) Early Days
So it was just QPR, and its only the 4th game of the season. Yet this was our first win. Hopefully we go on a long streak like the old days. Am trying not to get overexcited, but looking at the players we now have on board, how not to be? I'm expecting us to wipe out every other team from this game on this season. Hopefully I won't be too disappointed.

The Boardroom
All I had was a 10min slot out of a full day's marathon meeting from 8.30am to 5.30pm.
The butterflies in my tummy were already fluttering the night before.
I had maybe two practice runs of the content I was about to present but never fully cemented any form of articulation. I was banking on the fact that I could present confidently because I know that if you knew your stuff, cover all potential FAQ, and were passionate about what you were presenting, the rest of a great prezzo simply boiled down to nerve management and articulation.
The dream lines started flowing in during the morning while others took their turns to present. Wanting to sound inspirational yet not cocky.
"If APAC is going to crush the competition, Singapore will lead the way!"
Wait, "will lead the way" sounds not as powerful as "must lead the way". How about "shall lead the way"?
"Singapore has to crush every office out there!"
Wait, scratch that, might offend the offices present there.
"People think Singapore is stagnating, but I see so much opportunity!"
Scratch that, might offend the older managers who've been here a long time.
So much running through my head and the clock is ticking. And the closer it is to my prezzo, the less I can remember of any script in my head. Shoot.
Need to fit the word 'opportunity' somewhere because that's the chairman's latest buzzword in his marketing campaign. Need to fit in 'exciting' because the chairman's been peppering his lines with that word too.
Finally, my turn to present! Impromptu lah, I was already excited enough do tried not to think anymore. Just gonna wing it. Gonna open with something good and then follow the points on the PowerPoint one-pager.
"I can see a lot of exciting opportunity in the region, and here's why!"
10mins later, the room is pumped and the chairman made an observation. I said the word 'exciting' a grand total of six times, 'opportunity' three times. All in all a great prezzo, except that when in front of the room of 30 he bet me €100 that I would exceed my forecasted targets, I actually wanted to agree with him but accidentally took him on instead! That's the brain rush talking.
Phew.
I have alot of work cut out for me.
A Wedding North Of The Border
One of my closest cousins just got married this weekend. It's such a whirlwind trip, a Friday afternoon arrival and a Sunday morning exit.
A few things of note on this trip:
A good cousin reunion - was good to touch base with all my fav cousins again. We hardly see much of each other these days. But like old good friends, even after not meeting for so long, getting back into conversation wasn't a problem
A death in the family - very untimely and saddening. An auntie losing her fight against breast cancer had to go a week before the big wedding. We can't go see them, and they cannot come see us. Sad.
A family reunion - the family was supposedly pretty messed up, but lo' and behold, a wedding sure can do wonders of bringing everyone together. The parents, the twins, and the youngest sister. All estranged, together in a family reunion.
A cousin unseen - the youngest sister I have almost never seen before. I really wished I had more time to connect with her and to find out what's happening in her life. Alas there was no chance to do so.

New Additions
Luke Shaw
Ander Herrera
Marcos Rojo
Angel di Maria
Daley Blind
Falcao
Wow. I'm still coming to terms with all these great new additions. To be honest I'm abit sad to see Kagawa and Welbz leave, but as long as we continue to blood young talent from the academy, the club isn't going to lose it's identity anytime soon.
Anyway the Glazers are making so much money it's high time they've shelled out some funds for a few top stars! And boy do we have them now!

Fatherhood - Reflections V
Essentially, this how I spent my weekend:
Friday, I was on solo kids pick-up duty. Happened to take the same lift as the new teacher for PG1 (Xin) whose name was Judy (she's Indian). We had a courteous chat and then she reminded me that I should help the kids make lanterns since its the mid-autumn festival. The boy also says he wants to make a lantern because so many of his friends have brought one to school already. So I was determined to get a lantern made for each of my kids.
K, so what lanterns do you want?
The boy: Zebra!
The girl: Rabbit!
Ok, so for the rest of the weekend, I was slogging hard like a rice farmer making two little lanterns which at the end of it felt like I graduated from university.
Firstly, I used an old magazine to draw the outline of each of the animals, followed by cutting the shapes out. Then the wifey decided to use crushed magazine bits dipped in glue to line the entire body. After half a rabbit, she went for yoga class. So I finished everything else.

ACL Rehab Day #63
And now things are ok again.
It has been rather scary given how much of a step back that flare up would have been.
Full ROM has been regained and I can do all the previous exercises I could do up until I aggravated it.
Feels good that I'm back to recovery status. I can go back for physio with confidence.
Hoping to begin running soon!

Burnley 0 Manchester United 0
Three games in and still no win. I'm sure the fans are getting restless but or me I'm not hitting the panic button yet. Still there is alot of blame to dole out.
1) Defence Is Weak But Improving
Evans, Jones and Blackett. Only one player was worth commending and that's Tyler Blackett. So many mistakes kept being made unnecessarily. Nonetheless it is improving and already you can see the shape of this 3-5-2 formation and philosophy at the back. DDG imperious as usual.
2) Angel di Maria Debut
A good debut even though there was no goal. The guy has speed, can dribble past his man, and has the strength to hold off challenges. What's not to like? At this rate he will surely justify his transfer fees. Reminds me of a certain CR7.
3) Rest Of Midfield Is Weak
Fletcher is at best a bench player. I love him for coming through the United academy and being United through and through but I'll admit he's just not good enough to start. Mata playing attacking midfield had such a quiet game he wasn't a threat at all. Valencia was just clueless. He's strong but his powerful runs have disappeared and now he can't beat a tree on the dribble anymore. Only Young had probably a good game but surprisingly as the game wore on the ball kept being played to Tony V.
4) Wayne Rooney Could Be The Weakest Link
It seems unnoticeable to many but he may escape from being the worst player on the field merely by way of his reputation. As captain he has failed to lead the team. Again there was barely any fire in him, and his first touch was horrible. Suffice to say many chances were ruined by him. Giving him that stupid bumper contract was David Moyes' mistake, and making him captain might end up being LVG's undoing. The guy just comes off as a moneyface to this fan.
5) The LVG Philosophy
Honestly, the tactics are very sound and already you see that the team is adjusting already in terms of discipline and movement. This is a good sign of things to come. However with performances like today, will LVG be given time? Oh and bringing on Ando was just bizarre.
Anyway I'm already looking forward to next weekend's home game against QPR. Looking forward to a lineup that's got AdM, Rojo, Herrera and Blind!

Sunderland 1 Manchester United 1
Gosh. Things just seem to be getting from bad to worse.
1. So Much For Preseason Hype
Yeah, just when we all got carried away with LVG winning the International Champions Cup in the USA during preseason, we were all brought back down to earth by this 2nd game. Somehow the entire play was sluggish and the magic seemed lost, regardless of who was on the pitch. No one could put in a good shift.
2. Rooney The Non Captain
I'm not a fan of Rooney after how he's held the club to ransom. Twice. So LVG making him captain this season didn't leave a very good taste in the mouth. Last night he really showed why he SHOULD NOT be captain. Unable to lead by example, unable to play properly, unable to play with any fire in him. Very sad. He looked like just any regular Joe putting a normal shift at work and looking forward to go home to his family right at full time. I'm not sure that why we paid him 300,000/week.
3. Defence Is Too Porous
Say what you want but everytime Sunderland broke forward, they looked like they could score. Same with the Swansea game last week. Somehow, this 3-5-2 formation is making the 3 defenders very nervy. It also doesn't help that Smalling and Jones are the most senior of the lot marshalling the defence. Kudos to Tyler Blackett and Michael Keane doing a passable job. At least they can get away with a few greenhorn mistakes.
4. Poor Midfield, Poor Wings
The pair of Fletcher and Cleverly was absolutely horrendous. Without any other midfielders, this pairing is probably the worst passable pairing we could put out and boy did they justify that tag. The wings were no better. Valencia, much as I love him, is just not the same since his leg break. Nice of him to get an assist though. Ashley Young, I just have no idea why he's still with the club. He honestly surprised me in preseason, but from last week, he's reverted back to his old self. Terrible.
5. What Now LVG?
The one silver lining of it all is that I don't blame LVG for this mess. You can see the man has a good football philisophy and discipline. His tactics are usually sound as well. It feels like the players are the ones letting the whole team down in the last two games, starting with captain Rooney. If we don't improve on this, I'm afraid we are in for a very long season. Hopefully we can get one or two more players in before the transfer window closes.
Sigh.
